The folks in Vegas are watching Indian gaming like a grizzly watching the salmon run in Alaska.

Harrah's gave Prairie Band Pottawatomie the start up money for their casino in KS. Now Harrah's is looking to open another casino is Wichita, and has won a court ruling to violate its agreement with the Pott tribe.

www.kansascity.com | 09/05/2008 | Harrah’s scores legal victory over Kansas tribe (broken link)

It obvious tribes need start up costs and management. And even more obvious that the vegas folks are not helping the tribes out of the kindness of their hearts.

Indian gaming is a double-edged sword. I hope the various tribes are hiring good lawyers and use some good sense in the area of casinos.

Here is a site with a lot of casino related news:

Violating an agreement with a Tribe? Now that's a rare occurrence.

Yeah, and Harrah's won the legal right in court to do so. Go figure. Its all part of the game with million$ of dollar$ involved.

Speaking of millions. Looks like the Cherokee Nation is doing well.

Cherokee Nation Enterprises Profit Top $110 Million
Cherokee Nation Enterprises, which operates seven Cherokee Casinos in northeast Oklahoma, has announced profits of $111 million for 2007.

I met a friend yesterday who jumped ship from the state to the casino industry. I wouldn't do it unless I worked for an off-tribe. Too many politics involved when you work for your own tribe.

Grove, Ok is a nice little town on the MO/OK border. They have one casino, and I understand they area building a second near the AFton 1-44 exit. Grove is near the Miami casinos,, the Seneca, MO casino, and the Commerce, OK casinos. Its a little further to the casino on the AR/OK bprder. and a lot furter to Tulsa or Muskogee. I do not personally like any Harrah casino any where espeically those arournd KC.

Indian casinos are different because of the way they are treated by the state legislature in OKC. One year they have LV style gaming and the next, the tables are closed and they are back in the business of calling Bingo games. It's dumb. Everytime the boys get together in the "Playpen" and close the tables they lose over $20M annually from tax revenues generated by the Indian casinos.

If I wanted to deal I would look at Bosier City and Shreveport. Shreveport is progressive, the casinos in BC are really okay and they are very popular. .

Good post, as for Harrah's, I have never liked them and now they have taken over Vegas, are all over the midwest plus Tunica and La. Where next? The unfortunate thing, if you enjoy gambling and live in this area, you have almost no choices...

Sincce you're down in BV - I have friend's down the road in FV - I thouht I'd mention Bosiier City for a coupleof reasons. Harrah only owns one of the three in BC and none in Shereveport, afaik. Gaming is the second reason to go. The number one reason is the American Rose Garden. If the fall isn't early or cold, the roses will be blooming in Novermeber when they add a million lights for Xmas. It's an awesome place to visit.

We gambled from KC to the Gulf and back and from Grove, OK to CA and back and all the casions around Grove. I won $6 ln a $1 slot at American Star at KC. $5 on a dime on the Gulf, $50 at BC on nickel slots. Nothing on the Missisippi. I won a few bucks one night a Grove when they first opened the blackjack tables.

Soent two nights a Lawson, AZ - over by Bullhead and wasted money.
Their 'loose slots' were colder than a grave diggers shovel. Went to LV and couldn't find a place to park. That was 180 miles for nothing. We gambled on the way up and threw away too much money.

Played slots in the indican casino in southern Ca. Food was as bad as the slots were cold. We left Sunday night about 6pm to come home and stoppted driving at th first casion we found in AZ. I think it was Acorn Casino, We blew $40 in slots and won $50 at the tables. Spouse was mad when I quit. The cards were nice to me. My stomach wsa more important than cards; I had to drive all night.

I enjoyed the trip from BC to the Gulf because I stopped at some of the tourist traps, but mostly I liked the drive for the scenery, byways and lovely verly old Catholic church in Francesville. It was decorated with Russian art, marble angels from Rome and it was so peaceful you could almost feel the spirit of the pre-Civil War congregants.

IF I was in BV, I'd go back to BC in a heartbeat. I was a fun ship and a big one, but not nearly as big as the football size rooms in the Gult. ships, Since BC and Shreveport are only seperaed by a river, there is a lot of stuff to do, and see, and eat, and buy without ever gambling. .

When we lived in the Dallas area we used to do Shreveport and BC a couple times a year. Until a few months ago we lived in NM so could get to Laughlin, NV in about 8 hourse, did that a couple times a year as well, plus the Albuquerque area has some rally nice Indian casinos, but all in all (other than Laughlin) I think we like gambling in Tunica the best. By the way we sound like big time gamblers, we really are what used to be referred to as the $2 gamblers, now called low rollers. Hubby love the horse races which some of the Indian casinos do have race books now and I play slots. If the crap table min bets are low enough hubby will visit them a little.

Since you don't seem to like or approve of them, just don't go to any. It's not a rule, or anything.
