Hey Celti,
ya, it is true about many employers using your credit history as part of the job interview. Radio Shack I can tell you is pretty strict. The guy there told my husband he had the job totally in the bag, til the credit report. - Of course, the next job he had applied for did the same thing, and he got that job! So they look for different things, different degrees. Some places are pretty crazy with it! From what I hear, they are saying they use it as another tool to check how reliable you are going to be. Sigh. So, if yours is all from a divorce and is limited to one time frame, you may be able to explain that and be cut some slack. I dunno. Ours was due to a move/layoff and they wouldnt even listen to him try to explain at one place! But, like I said, he did get a job that still required the check, so all you can do is try, right?
Btw, this was over a year ago, and my husband is a mid-30s guy w/college and terrific references. So its not just the older ladies that have to be aware of this.
Best of luck to you!!!
Tiffany

Lincoln City - prices? Moved to oregon coast relocation ideas???
Howdy. Move is finalized - will be in town, moved in by the 5th of Feb.
Gas Buddy's site informs me of gas in the area being just above 2.60gal right now. Can anybody fill me in on commodities, i.e, milk, eggs, bread and grocery prices in general? Also the local attitude towards available health-care in general terms. Med & Dental Ins., Housing and utilities are supplied.

Crime on the Oregon Coast
In researching locations a very important factor for myself is the crime rate.In so doing, have found that many Oregon Coast towns have a disturbingly high crime rate.Usually the violent crime rate is average or below, but with a high number of burglaries and thefts. The worse seems to be Newport, with a high number of rapes and assaults and a high property crime rate.Brookings,Bandon, and a couple other towns appear to be quite safe.Realize that just looking at raw statistics can be somewhat misleading;areas that get large numbers of tourists can distort the numbers somewhat, for example.Just how do Coast residents view the crime situation;is it a big issue,or just touist related and not a large factor?Do you, your family, and neighbors feel secure where you live?

i moved to eastern oregon from southern ca back in 1992,i have found a place where the population has been stable for 15 years.the weather here is inviting in the spring and summer and really cold in the winter, every spring for sale signs pop up all over town, due to the extreem cold.the real estate people must be making a fortune.i have seen a house by me sell every year for 12 years.there are alot of people from ca moving here and staying here, bringing the same stuff with them that the were moving to get away from.so i'm checking out states with no sales tax or income tax.i check out cost of living in all the states, salary calculator and vital statistics.for those of you who don't know the west side of the cascades is liberal country, the east side is very conservative.good luck in your search.

I live in Brookings and feel extremely secure. (Of course, I lived in semi-East Oakland, California for years and felt pretty secure so apparently I'm not the paranoid type! LOL. ) The only time I feel unsafe at all is sometimes when walking (and I'm ALWAYS walking because I don't drive) and some crazy motorist tries to run me down. The motorists here are just as crazy and power mad as everywhere else it seems...and its getting worse because there are entirely too many people here now.
Crime here is not a big issue as far as I am concerned. If you are really curious about it, you can go to the local newspaper's website: www.currypilot.com and check out the police log. Sometimes it's quite amusing.

Oregon coast (right on coast) foggy and cloudy, windy a lot. Go 15 to 30 miles inland and the weather changes considerably. Consider Coquille, Myrtle Point (only 20 to 30 miles inland from Coos Bay). Lots of people commute from Coq and MP to Coos Bay and miss all that north wind coming off the ocean! (i am an Oregon native and have lived near the coast all my life)
