I have an uncle who lives in the quiet hills of Raleigh. Nice city, nice surroundings, comprehensive, organized interstate system... Overall, nice city.
I couldn't live there, however, as I don't care to live cold winters again. I've had enough of that. I'll visit cold places, but to live there is different.
Ideal weather for me would be Caribbean Island weather (think St-Martin) where it's hot, yes, but never feels as sticky as it does here.

Hi PDF,

I've been following your posts in your move to Orlando. If you have any questions about Charlotte or NC for that matter, please feel free to reach out. I've been in Charlotte for 31 years and counting. I'm in the same predicament as you, in that I've lived in Charlotte for so long and I want a change. Orlando sparked my interest and I've been a avid CD member of the Orlando forum for quite some time. I've learned alot from all the members who live in Orlando and am hoping to make the move one day. I'm doing my research and plan to make future trips to Orlando to continue my research. However, I do have a general idea of what areas to live and which to avoid. I like hot weather and can't stand the winters here in Charlotte (mind you they are nothing like NY, DC, or Chicago winters), and Raleigh seems to get the brunt of bad weather and it bypasses us. I like it warm year round and understand Orlando does get chilly a few months out of the year. However, Charlotte is a great city and has grown and is continuing to grow. I see so many license plates from people all over the county, including Florida. Some days I think to myself with the amount of Florida license plates I see here its a sign that I need to move down (LOL). In the end what will determine my move will be the job. If I secure a good job then no doubt I will make the move. Good luck with your research and all the best with the move!

Change that to "A few days, maybe a few weeks." Definitely not an ongoing thing for months. You get a cold spell that might last a day or two, and maybe repeat once or twice during January/February.

Arcenal, even better for me:-) I remember being in Orlando in December and the weather was gorgeous (by my standards that would be in the mid 80s).

Thanks! It seems that Charlotte gets a lot of the attention on here, but I think Raleigh is a good city in its own way. Up-and-coming just like Orlando is. Charlotte is growing too, but I think places like Raleigh and Orlando have catching up to do compared to Charlotte.

Funny because when I was in Orlando the last time (circa Dec. 2012) I felt downtown Orlando had much more to offer compared to downtown Charlotte (not steering you away from Charlotte). I walked around Wall Street, Church Street, Lake Eola, and Thornton Park. I don't drink so I didn't care much for the bars but when I saw Wall Street for the first time it reminded me of a mini Bourbon Street which I thought was cool.
