I have worked with a Phillip Phillips, a Stuart Stuart and a Richard Richard.
Can someone explain to me why "Peggy" is short for "Margaret?"
I used to go to school with a guy named Thomas Thomas and a guy named Michael Dick.
My Grandmother told me a story about a governer named Hogg, the story was that he had daughters named Ima, Youra and Werea but I never knew if that was true.
Can someone explain to me why "Peggy" is short for "Margaret?"
Not sure, exactly, AliceT. Maybe just a variation of Meg? I'll bet some of the very clever, storyline writers here could come up with something. I can hear it now, one-legged Margaret, who lost a leg at sea when she stowed-away aboard a pirate ship in the 1700s. Her shipmates took to calling her 'Peg' and then the more affectionate diminutive, 'Peggy.' Not-so-leggy Peggy.
My husband's family has friends whose last name is Rabbit. Two of the boys, grown men, one a minister, invited to be the 'guest' minister at their church on Easter Sunday, couldn't make it. The airline canceled their seats, thinking 'no way Peter and Jack Rabbit were flying Easter weekend.'
Now that I think of it, my parents used to know a couple, their names were Andy and Andrea Andrews, thats NO LIE. It sounds terribly unlikely but very true.
Some of the weirdest last names I've ever saw were on professional football quarterbacks (Staubach, Tarkenton, Kosar, Esiason, Elway, Theisman, Namath)...I've never met anyone, in real life, with those last names...Unusual, I say.
There is a hockey player with the last name Peca..Kind of feel bad for the guy.
