Hi Green Machine,
I'm struggling with this issue too, though not so extreme as yours. I set myself limits (say, 1 hour) but never stick to it.
I think the number 1 thing is not to blame yourself. We are all only human and all falliable - we're wired to be stimulated by this stuff. Millions of people have this 'problem'. I have started learning guitar and I'm going to see if I can 'transfer' a lot the time and energy I would be spending on the net on learning this. If I could dedicate only 30% of the time I spend online learning guitar I could be a virtuoso in 10 years time. Pretty cool. You need to think about what to do when not online. Make it something rewarding so you can get addicted to it too - getting supremely healthy, or learning enough Spanish to take a trip to S america next summer or something.
I'm gonna buy an eggtimer tomorrow. A good old fashioned mechanical thing. Then when I go surfing I'll set it for a specified time and then trz to stick to it. 1 hour surfing, one hour guitar. Or whatever.
Good luck!
S
