When we were in L.A. DH put a big sign next to the door (in Spanish and English):

"We Are Born-Again Christians. Please Let Us Tell You About Jesus!!"

And it's the truth, lol. But it cut down on the foot traffic by 90%.

We are very close friends with two couples who are also child free by choice. Same thing - they don't talk about it. It's not a topic of conversation. Of course, if they were like some of the people on these forums, we wouldn't be friends with them in the first place.

My husband will remind them that it's illegal to come to our door with the sign and always asks to see their permit. He has a good way of scaring them off.

We had one incidence where cops were called. I told the guy at the door (unfortunately no sign at the time) I was not interested. He then asked for a bottle of water. I said I didn't have any. Shut the door. He then starts screaming in the street that I wouldn't give him water because he was black. Seriously.

Long story short, cops were called - he only got lucky because we had no sign. The cop said he would have hauled him in. He did get escorted out of the neighborhood because he had no permit. The cop said the biggest problem they have is the vans that drop these guys off. The guy had no i.d. - didn't even live in the state. I'm not even sure the knew what state he was actually in!
Oh my goodness. I suspect people who take such jobs nowdays are struggling to find other jobs, and may be a tad off? We had a guy a few months ago trying to sell us fluorescent light bulbs and some other earth-friendly products. We are that way inclined anyway, so I commended him on the products, but said we already had those items. Then he started screaming at me "You don't love your mother (Earth)", "Take care of your mother". It was bizarre, and the kids (who are not easily freaked out) were freaked out.

I wish I could find a sign that simply said, "Go Away!". I'd buy that.

One of my best friends is child-free, and she sees herself as an aunt to my kids. She took them for 10 days when DH and I went to Paris. It was her idea, and they all had a ball.

That may be the case - and also very taken advantaged of by the people who run those sorts of things.

It was upsetting to say the least - mainly because we have no issues with black people. If I would have had bottled water I would have given him one. We don't buy bottled water because we love mother earth

I'm sooooooooooo HOT! The AC broke in my car! I just got back from running errands for 5-1/2 hours. In the 98 degree bright sun! In the humidity!
