Dugdog, I obviously misinterpreted this to mean Happy was having trouble with the site and was trying to be helpful.

I have been curious about that too. If he were in my state the voters would kick him out on his ass.

Murtha was correct though. I've heard a number of Democrats and former Clinton supporters here in supposedly "progressive" Scranton/Wilkes-Barre saying they're voting for Sen. McCain over Sen. Obama because "we're not ready for a black president." I'd presume SW PA is similar in its mindset given our very close demographics.

Hardly.

Yeah it won't be so funny when Obama taxes the boss into cutting jobs.

Murtha could easily say eastern Pa is racist because they're voting for Obama.
Governor Corzine of new jersey announced that he wants to cut business taxes in New Jersey to stimulate the weakened economy there. So he and McCain disagree with Barak Obama on economic issues.

Let me begin by stating that I grew up in the years when the youth of this country had a voice. I was a very liberal-leaning kid. However, I think I know BS and manipulation when I hear it. Many people are hearing only the very tip of what is being proposed. They are hearing what they want to hear without processing what this can create. They may be hearing....they are not really listening. This will have an effect on everyone who is trying to survive in this economy. Except for the free riders.

The masses are hearing, "I'll cut your taxes and make the rich bastards pay more." Whoopie. The Walton (Wal-Mart) family just became richer. More products shipped from beyond our shores and fewer jobs here. Look out Wal-Mart employees! Here come the shoppers!!

Now let's say that there is a woman out there who was married for thirty years. She raised her family, did volunteer work at her kids' school, did without many perks to be a good mom and stay home to raise her children. Her husband made a fair living, and they were able to squeak by. At 49yo her husband suddenly died. Kids in college, a home mortgage, and a low-paying job she took when her youngest began Jr. High. She gets none of the $$ husband and she have paid into the SS system. She must the 62 to begin to collect. There were some small investments and they have grown, but she can't hit them until she's 59.5 years old in order to avoid the penalties. She's just over 6 months from being able to draw on that nest egg. Along comes the tax man. She's screwed again. God forbid she'd need to use that money for medical reasons. She'd loose it all. Guess the government needs to take care of this....they created it. Yeah. Right.

Now let's say that there's an elderly couple in their 80s. They worked blue collar all their lives, saved, and scrimped to build a nest egg for their elderly years. After all, they grew up in the Great Depression and know how to pinch a penny. One of them becomes very ill. There are hospital bills, and the need for more care than they can get in their home. They do have that money they saved, but the tax man needs more to spread the wealth around. Oh, well. The government (county home) might take care of them.....at taxpayer's expense....just not at the federal level. The taxman cometh. Guess government will need to take care of them. That's OK. It will only cost the rich guys. Won't cost those on welfare/Medicaid a dime. Yeah. Right.

One more. There's a guy (not unlike our friend Joe the plumber) who risks everything he has to build a business. He puts up his home and all his assets in order to buy into a business. He took a major risk, but he believes in the work ethic and ingenuity of his employees. He treats them very well, and, in turn, they produce. He's not sitting in that chair either. He works long hours, sweats blood, and it pays off. That little, not-so-productive company turns around. There are more jobs created. There is good health care. As a matter of fact, this little company is named the "best to work for" several years running. He donates funds to local charity, is considered a success.....and a darn good guy.

Eventually, he chooses to retire. He sells the business (his stock) to the employees. They make payments. He is finally seeing a return on all his blood, sweat, and tears...and all those nights when the family ate pasta in order to put more $$ back into the business. With BO's plan, this business man will pay 61% in taxes. Hummmm? Why take the risk? Why create jobs? After all....the government is already giving 47% of its citizens a free ride. Look over your shoulder....the taxman and his priorities are nippin' at your butt. But that's OK. He is smarter than you. He knows what to do....until you figure out that you've lost all individual choice. Don't worry. It will put a few more bucks in your pocket.

It's not the stereotypical Wall St. paper shuffler who will be impacted by this plan. It's many, many people who the masses will be made responsible for. People who could have taken care of themselves, if the government had allowed them the opportunity.

Hey, Joe! Sell your trucks! Get rid of that plumbing business. Don't expand for heaven's sake! Get on the free-ride train! What? You think that people need plumbers? Nah. They can just call in a union, have the government demand high hourly pay for coded jobs. When the infrastructure of the country crumbles more, the taxman will have a plan. Just don't pay attention to that man behind the curtain. He's a wizard....not just the taxman.

End of rant. Rockky, worries....I can't, in good conscience, support anyone one on either side of this election. There's just too much of the 1960 left in me.
