If you are single with no special or even friendly relationships, no. Otherwise, any amount is too much. nothing beats someone you know cutting your hair. Just make sure they care about you and you'll have the best haircuts ever. Of course it helps if they know what they are doing. I bet that someone you know can cut hair very well. If your hair is growing that fast they should become experts rather quickly.

That $1000 a year? invest it. Compounded, it will add up very fast indeed.

I think $1,000 /year is outrageous. I pay $14 every 6 weeks. I get my hair cut at a beauty salon and the $14 includes shampooing. I have been going to the same lady for many years.

I can understand how this goes... I used to get my haircut twice a month at 20$ each time...

But every week is a little much aint it?

You must sport a really short/trim cut.

Either way, $1000 is something you gotta do.

Unless it is one of those 'happy ending' kind of places, then yes.

I've never spent $20.00 on a haircut and I've never went less than 5 weeks needing a haircut. So, it goes without saying that I think spending 1k a year on haircuts is a bit much.

Yes. From someone who has cut his own hair for past 20 years and only paid once (overseas for 3 week trip). I cut my own every week. A good Wahl electric trimmer with the full set of attachments from 1/16th to 1" and tapers, a mounted mirror, a hand mirror and anyone with some manual dexterity and spatial capability should be able to do so. I became more proficient over time that if needed can do it by feel. As my hair on top has thinned out the past few years it does go quicker and I abide by the old adage the more you lose the shorter it should be cut.

So that's a $1040 better spent on something of need or invested. And as a few others mentioned have a friend cut it.
