I don’t think people are rushing to Five Guys based on these offers, but they’re probably more likely to pull out their Chase card to pay when they do go to Five Guys. I check these offers periodically, they very rarely have places I eat or shop at, exceptions being Five Guys, Panera, Starbucks, and (I think) Dunkin.
The problem with credit cards for most people is the temptation is there to spend more then they intend to. No one, well almost no one gets a credit card with the intention of carrying a 20k+ balance. When you pay cash, when you see something you really want or "need" if you don't have the cash in your wallet, then you go without. When you have a credit card, it's never having to go without, and that's where most people get into trouble.
Yes I know lots of people who say they pay off the credit card balance every month, and yes they may get "free" hotel / airline points, cash back, etc. but statistically 65% of these I pay the balance off every month types carry a balance at least some of the time, which pretty much wipes out anything free they thought they were getting.
Well that would depend upon which card one carries a balance.
Smart persons with clear understanding of how things go don't carry balances on rewards cards if for no other reason APRs tend to be higher. If they have other CCs (and many do) that don't offer cash back but have lower APR then that is where they will carry a balance.
Also better one's credit score is even non-cash back cards offer sweet deals that such as interest free/lower APR for "X" months.

I use an Amazon card that gives 5%-1% back depending on where you're spending. We charge everything and pay it off each month. We will get $800 in cash back from it this year. That's pretty nice.
which chase cards ? i have the freedom , the freedom unlimited , the sapphire reserve and sapphire preferred and none show five guys and if they did it is capped at under2 or 3 dollars usually which is what this whole thread was about
Why do you have both the Sapphire Preferred and Sapphire Reserve? I thought Chase only allows one now.

Player 1 and player 2 most likely and for the sign up bonuses. I’m not sure where the math would work out but the sapphire preferred uses to gives a 10% points boost annually plus is 3x spend on it online grocery and streaming services. Don’t know if that’s worth the extra fee

Not true, I have never carried a balance in all my life, and on occasion charge over $20K a month.
The margins on fast food are razor thin, what do you expect them to offer a.. 50% discount? LOL! They are barely making 2 bucks on your sandwich and giving you 0.50 cents of the profit so that is a pretty good deal.
The exception of course is Starbucks which is one of the biggest rip offs in the business world... I cannot believe anyone even pays their prices, I don't go there but for those that do yes they can probably offer a generous discount because their drinks are priced 10X what it should actually be.
