We do. I refuse to live in fear...and besides the dog barks when the cat so much as sneezes so he will let us know if anyone comes in!

The front of the house is always closed and locked. On the back side of the house all of the windows and arcadia doors are left open. It's an eight foot climb over the wall from the street behind and more than half of it's lined with large rose bushes on the yard side, the gate to the front is locked, we have four dogs and there's a .40 cal Sig within reach of the bed.

There's been in the news lately of a rash of cat burglars on the west side, especially in Surprise comming into houses with the open windows or unlocked doors while people are sleeping, and they are geting away with robbing those people.

Default designer door

I have a designer screen door that we leave wide open (it deadbolts) overnight and we leave our bedroom window open, too!

I think everyone should do that for cross ventilation and set the central house fan to circulate air for 15-20 minutes every hour...

We do too but only a little bit and there is a window lock in place so in order for a person to fit through they would have to force it open and by that time my two loud dogs would alert us.

Gotta lock your doors and at the least lock your downstairs windows at night. It's a huge reason why I will only move into a two story, I want my window open when I can without worry.. If someone tries to climb up, good luck.

Yes. I would say that these are excellent guard dogs, and I would feel completely safe leaving my window open with one of these.
Sorry for the delay in responding. Our English Mastiffs do not take the heat very well. We keep them inside most of the time, which is fine, they sleep 8 hours a day. We bought ours from a breeder in Tolleson and they come from very good stock. Their father was an import from Scottland and he is beautiful. They are wonderful watch dogs (when awake) and scare the poo out of door to door salesmen. Our poor UPS man started throwing the packages at the door. I finally caught him and made him come into the house so I could sign for the package. He was shaking so hard while the two dogs licked him. I would be happy to give you the breeders name. The drooling, well, we keep towels handy. Seriously, only when they drink and eat.
