Decent rain in Scottsdale overnight. No flooding that I saw.

Meanwhile I've had over 3" of rain here in the last week.

That's the thing about the monsoon, it is so localized, where some suburb/place gets 2 or 3 inches of rain, while the airport (or wherever the official rain total is kept) gets 0.5 inches or nothing. I don't know what the answer is to get a better "official" rain record, maybe if they had 9 or 10 "official collection places" throughout the valley and took the average? It's not like other places around the US where you usually get a steady even amount of rain throughout a region as a front moves through.

So I guess it doesn't matter anymore, anyway. Three to Four more weeks and it's over if we are lucky.

The storms seem to break up around the Estrella's most times. I'm over near the ballpark and at first it looked like a bust, then the skies opened up. My neighbor has a nice new lake behind him now.

I believe mountains/topography enhance storms in certain areas, via orographic lift.

So true. There was virtually no rain whatsoever this week at my place in North Phoenix. Others got swamped. For my area this monsoon was a bust. We had one good storm so far.

These hurricanes are always a bust. Every year the storm of the century is coming and by the time the get to Phoenix they fizzle out.

Not always. Don't forget that 2 years ago in Sept. Tropical Storm Norbert dumped enough rain here to cause cars to float away on I -10! Hurricane Odile came shortly after and also brought a lot of rain.

I remember it well because it happened just a few weeks before we were supposed to fly to Cabo for vacation and Odile did a number on Cabo, including the airport. We had to change plans and go someplace else.
