Pittsburgh has a lot to learn from Atlanta on what it takes to be a great city.

Wish I could rep you again!

I have seen some mergers here in Colorado where the school districts are left intact. I have long advocated for inter-governmental cooperation, as in joint purchase agreements. I've also long thought the school districts in PA are verging on the "too small" in many cases, but I don't know exactly what can be done about that.

I do not understand the merger mania that seems to be so attractive to some people on this board.
Omaha, Nebraska is a city that has been voraciously annexing unincorporated land for decades. As a result, three school districts serve the students in the city, b/c these annexed areas had schools before they were annexed.

I don't get it. A highway that size in Pgh would be in the rivers.

We certainly don't need highways like that. Goodness, traffic around here is a breeze. Of course I am on bike most of the time, so it makes is super easy.

The population of Philadelphia is 1.5 million. The population of Allegheny County is 1.2 mil. When you think of "great schools", do you think of the Philly schools?

more diversity, pittsburgh doesn't have a chinatown or much to offer in terms of asian amenities. It's mostly a black/white city.

We have several Asian and Indian markets and restaurants here in town, Homestead has a PF Changs.

The fact that not many recent immigrants have wanted to move to a city on the economic skids over the past 30 years doesn't mean that people aren't open to diversity.
