Ensuring there's enough money to pay for the war will require reforming the country's entitlement system, Boehner said. He said he'd favor increasing the Social Security retirement age to 70 for people who have at least 20 years until retirement, tying cost-of-living increases to the consumer price index rather than wage inflation and limiting payments to those who need them. "We need to look at the American people and explain to them that we're broke," Boehner said. "If you have substantial non-Social Security income while you're retired, why are we paying you at a time when we're broke? We just need to be honest with people.
I wonder if Mr Boehner would support an ammendment to bar Congress people and Federal Executive Service workers from getting their pensions until age 70 or until the date they leave Federal Service after age 70?
Wait... all this "blame Bush" "blame Bush" from Obama and the left, and when the facts are posted they're suddenly misleading?
I meant it regardless of party affiliation. Bush Jr. found a completely different situation than Reagan, Clinton a completely different one than Obama.

It's a good thing, the retirement age must be raised.Germany, France, Japan do that !
Germany had decided to do so, but they are reconsidering their decision now as it is very unrealistic.
Japan has an interesting tradition. Oftentimes employees remain officially employed with their companies till they die, even if they don't do anything anymore. Companies are considered like family there, at least that is the traditional way.
Write your Congressman, tell him/her that for the next session of Congress you want him/her to vote for Ron Paul for Speaker. He can deal with Boehner.
many of the people who have worked and paid their share have worked hard jobs, they don't sit on their ass but instead use their back to make a living, I doubt they want the retirement age raised, personally i think it should be lowered to full benifit at age 60. Our government should just repay all the money they have deverted from Social Security and it would be fine.

What? You saying there's hypocrisy in Congress? Trouble maker!

The jobs listed as the 10 most dangerous..............how many people could do those jobs until they are 70 yrs. old?
70 years as a retirement age might work with "pencil pusher" jobs...........but is not doable in a lot of other jobs, especially jobs in the service industry.
How many 70 years olds could do waitress, stock boy, bus boy, cashier jobs, factory jobs, etc.? Those jobs are low paying.........not much chance to save for your own retirement. Those jobs are very physically demanding and cause a lot of very painfull repetitive motion diseases.
How can anyone expect people in physically demanding jobs to work until they are 70?
It is just cruel, plain and simple.........and it shows how out of touch legislators are with a large majority of American workers.
America's retirement age should be 85. Anyone who retires before that age should be disgraced as anti-American.
