Rev. Wright knew at the time that he had gone a to far and in fact in the sermon a few moments later he asked the congregation to forgive him for the God Damn.

From "Confusing God and Government" Sermon:

But I’m fitting to help you one last time – turn to your neighbour and say “he’s fitting to help us one last time.” Turn back and say “Forgive him for the ‘God Damn’, that’s in the Bible Lord.” Blessings and cursing is in the Bible, it’s in the Bible. But I’m fitting to help you one last time. Let me tell you something. Where governments fail, God never fails.

So I think his point was believable.
I don't. I didn't realize Rev Jeremiah Wright has so many defenders. I guess part of the PC croud?

All I know is that if a white preacher said anything close to what this man said they would be branded as a racist and worse. And well they should be. It is inconceivable to me that people actually want to defend his words and actions by saying he was taken out of context. I believe the peope who say this are the ones who haven't listened to the tapes, because I know I have.

Did I say I was defending him or his comments? If having an opinion of my own makes me part of the PC crowd, then I guess I am.

I just call it being correct, politics has nothing to do with it.

Anyway, here we are day three and we still don't have a not have serious and substantiated response to the OP's question.

That certainly sums up the Rev.

Well let me see if I can help the discussion along.

America's chickens…are coming home to roost.

"We took this country by terror, away from the Sioux, the Apache, the Arowak, the Comanche, the Arapahoe, the Navajo. Terrorism." [True or False?]

"We took Africans from their country to build our way of ease and kept them enslaved and living in fear. Terrorism." [True or False?]

"We bombed Granada and killed innocent civilians, babies, non-military personnel." [True or False?]

"We bombed the black civilian community of Panama with stealth bombers and killed unarmed teenagers and toddlers, pregnant mothers, and hardworking fathers." [True or False?]

"We bombed Qaddafi's home and killed his child." [True or False?]

"We bombed Iraq. We killed unarmed civilians trying to make a living. We bombed a plant in Sudan to payback for the attack on our embassy, killed hundreds of hardworking people, mothers and fathers who left home to go that day not knowing that they would never get back home." [True or False?]

"We bombed Hiroshima, we bombed Nagasaki, and we nuked far more than the thousands in New York and the Pentagon and we never batted an eye." [True or False?]

"We have supported state terrorism against the Palestinians and Black South Africans and now we are indignant because the stuff we have done overseas is now brought right back to our own front yards. America's chickens are coming home to roost."

NOW FOR THE FAMOUS LINES

"....the United States of America government, when it came to treating her citizens of Indian descent fairly, she failed. She put them on reservations. When it came to treating her citizens of Japanese decent fairly, she failed. She put them in internment prison camps. When it came to treating her citizens of African descent fairly, America failed. The government put them in chains. She put them on slave quarters, put them on auction blocks, put them in cotton fields, put them in inferior schools, put them in sub-standard housing, put them in scientific experiments, put them in the lowest paying jobs, put them outside the equal protection of the law, kept them out of their racist bastions of higher education, and locked them into positions of hopelessness and helplessness. The government gives them the drugs, builds bigger prisons, passes a three strike law, and then wants us to sing God Bless America…no, no, no

Not God bless America, God damn America. That's in the Bible, for killing innocent people. God damn America for treating her citizens as less than human. God damn America for as long as she acts like she is God and she is supreme."

Those 'ten to twenty second' clips went on and on every Sunday for far more than 20 years. And for those that were playing golf (ahem) on Sunday and may have missed them, he sold DVD's of the sermon's. All the while preaching 'Black Liberation Theology'.

Preaching hate while raking in cash for his glorious estate.

Nice job Rev....fooled enough of them to live in comfort didn't ya?

I think the bigger issue is that he has shown that he's happy being whatever he needs to be to look good in front of the people.

If he thinks voters want a guy that sits in a church preaching black liberation theology....he's there.

If he thinks they want a guy that celebrates ramadan....he's there.

Shouldn't surprise us....after all, as Bill Clinton said about Robert Byrd's klan affiiliations...whatever it takes to get elected! We shouldn't fault him for that, right?

Another missing piece:
I heard Ambassador Peck on an interview yesterday. Did anybody else see him or hear him, he was on Fox News. This is a white man, and he was upsetting the Fox News commentators to no end. He pointed out, (Did you see him, John?) --a white man-- he pointed out-- an ambassador-- that what Malcolm X said when he got silenced by Elijah Mohammad was in fact true, America's chickens are coming home to roost.

[segment removed (read the previous post link for the rest]

A White ambassador said that, y'all, not a black militant. Not a Reverend who preaches about racism, an ambassador whose eyes are wide open, and whose trying to get us to wake up, and move away from this dangerous precipice upon which we are now poised. The ambassador said that the people we have wounded don't have the military capability we have, but they do have individuals who are willing to die and take thousands with them, and we need to come to grips with that.

There he was quoting Ambassador Peck. Since Peck was part of the Administrator, I guess, the White House said it......Bush's white house.

Last edited by plannine; 08-22-2010 at 01:05 PM.. Reason: Peck not Beck (although they are both idiots)
