Shutting down the internet is akin to shutting down the presses, seizing television stations and chasing people off public squares with jackbooted thugs. This is the reason NOBODY should have an internet killswitch, not even the President. It just rings of tyranny and despotism. The people of Egypt should serve as a warning to the rest of us, freedoms are always being challenged and the rights of people are always going to be a thorn in the side of governments.

Wha? I'm just saying he's a tool of the Federal government, and is blowing steam. He spoke at a La Raza convention. He could carry 10 weapons on him at any one time and that wouldn't change that fact.

And it's easier than many think..all you need is the power to control it and you can mandate that all providers must implement "x".
When you want to restrict you call the provides and say "flip the switch now".

We might not get the same instantaneous kill that Egypt got but we could see a rolling effect as providers kill their pieces.
AT&T going down first would be the biggest impact.

Never mind the communication fiasco..imagine banking, shipping, the electric grid ?

I read that Egypt is able to keep their military connected. So it's just "Joe User" that cannot communicate.

See folks..IT CAN BE DONE. Get your heads out of the sand.

All mobile operators in Egypt have been instructed to suspend services in selected areas. Under Egyptian legislation the authorities have the right to issue such an order and we are obliged to comply with it. The Egyptian authorities will be clarifying the situation in due course .

There's a heck of a lot more unrest throughout the world than our MSM reports on.

I went foreign to get my news quite a while ago.
Americans are still reveling from the happy, lollipops and unicorns State of the Union where we're going to fund and invest and create "Utopia".
