Where does the US Constitution grant Congress the authority to create a high-speed rail system, or fund a train of any kind for that matter?
The last time I checked, the US Constitution granted Congress the power to "establish Post Offices and Post Roads." Please tell me they are not going to pretend that a rail system has something to do with delivering the mail.
Is it any surprise that Congress does not give a damn about their restrictions and limitations under the US Constitution, when we do not care either?
It says nothing about public education either but there it is.
You should get a lawyer and tell your theory about the unconstitutionality of using funds for railroads to the Judge.
There isn't a public rail or bus transit system anywhere that pays for itself. All of them are subsidized by tax payers or vehicle owners. So how will taking more money out of the pockets of tax payers and vehicle owners improve our economy?
Gees, all that rail and only on the east coast. No wonder easterners want to be like Europe. They already have the rail system just like Europe. Meanwhile, all the western states have to pay so easterners can be just like Europe. What a bunch of pathetic parasites.
LOL , well every state has a Rail plan.... Feds Fund plans that will get the highest usage , thus the Eastern states or Northeastern. Republicans are more willing to fund are Rail plans also....so we can survive a Republican take over pretty well. Just with slightly less.... Alot of Europeans live here , so its like a mini Europe.... The states are paying for most of those miles , but some of the larger and busier lines will be built by the Feds , our Economy is also driven by Rail...so we need it more then you.... You can always come over here and use it , you don't have to be an Eastern...

I see, so you are using one unconstitutional act to justify another. That sounds like what a three year old would say: "Why did you break that glass Johnny?", his mother asks. "Because Tommy broke that dish", Johnny replies. Can you get any more pathetic than that?
Building high-speed trains will obviously create jobs. But they have potential to do even more. Say a high speed train gets built in rural Iowa. These folks would be able to commute to Chicago or St. Louis to work for a fraction of the time it would take to drive.
During previous recessions, people would pack up and move to cities with job growth. Now, due to the dismal housing market, people are less likely to move away.
These high-speed trains can change the way we think about commuting. They can let people in rural areas compete for jobs in the city.

Screw that... put extra lanes on the interstates. It in an infrastructure that is already in place. Then duplicate the speed limits as per the German autobahn...i.e. none

So, how much do you think it would cost to put extra lanes on I95 between Boston and Washington? Don't forget to factor in new bridges or rebuilding existing ones like the GWB in New York.
Also, there are speed limits in many places on the Autobahns especially in built up areas. I95 is built up from New Haven to Philadelphia, from Providence to Boston, etc. etc.
