So at 50 you were out of work a year. You don't even know this 60 year old, yet you have all the answers to his unemployment problem, and of course, you had to trash him in the process of telling us. The people I know in their later 50/60s do not want to move, b/c they are concerned if they tear up all their roots, they will just get laid off in the new location. It happens.
Yet that 60 year old's mother felt free to make assumptions based on her son. She had all the excuses.
I never trashed him. Just shared my story. If you made conclusions based on that story, it's on you.
I now people that don't want to move, that can't sell their house, that can't find a job. It's nothing but excuses. And that's fine. But don't whine that it's not your fault when you don't make the hard choices.
The newspaper here in Phoenix recently had an article with people standing in line for public assistance, the guy in the picture was quoted as saying "With this economy, people need help."
Of course he's clutching a large iced coffee drink that probably cost enough for two meals cooked at home while standing in that line. Help me! I can't afford to get my tattoo work touched up. Ahhhh!
The Republicans who control the Arizona Legislature refused to extend unemployment benefits to thousands of needy Arizona residents Monday, a move that would have cost the state nothing and brought to Arizona millions in federal funds.
If a person can't find a job and they are on unemployment from AZ, PANHANDLING pays more. Did anyone see that Stossel show where the panhandlers were making like $30 an hour? Unemployment in AZ pays $240 a week. So let's see, a person panhandles for 40 hours a week and makes $30 an hour, that's $1200 tax free or $240 a week and pay taxes.
You can make $280 a week at McDonalds. $360 at In-n-Out Burger. All higher salaries than unemployment.
I don't know Arizona too well, but I do know that during the last decade the state gained a lot of new citizens and then the economy and housing bubble burst. As of right now there may just be too many people looking for a job in a state that doesn't have the capital to create new jobs. It's a bad situation.
Well, I do know AZ as I live here. These extended benefits would not have cost the state a dime. Just more meanness on the part of this right wing run state. Yeah, simple meanness.

I think its mean to give someone 250/a week
show them the door and tell them to find a darn job
there are help wanted signed EVERYWHERE...you just have to be WILLING to WORK
California – $450
Colorado – $455
Utah – $427
New Mexico – $455
240 for a week....that's bus fair and meals for a week
Well, excellent point and just reinforces what I've said and this is a very right wing state. Flat out, in your face, lack of caring for its citizens.
