Oh, and my wife got the woman in the homeless family a lead on a job with benefits so they could have money and the homeless woman looked at her like she smeared dog poop all over her.
She never went to the job interview.
You need to cut lots of the benefits to the bums out there IMO.
I believe its safe to say that churches have without a doubt softened the blow for millions of Americans during this rough stretch in time. In fact, churches have over extended themselves during this recession. Anyone who suggests differently clearly doesn't have a close enough relationship to the Christian church to know otherwise.
Personally, I find it despicable that the OP or anyone else would think that the church has been MIA during this recession.

They are probably anti-religious and it could have been a thread meant as a dig that backfired.
The right wing is against the liberal safety net system. So...my question is (and republicans espouse this belief that help should come from personal charity and the churches), why aren't the churches flinging their doors open to house the homeless and those in need? Certainly they have plenty of pews (aka benches) and could afford a few sleeping bags from those Sunday collections.
WWJD?
They do all the time around here, and several other cities I've lived in across the country. Have you been living under a rock or something?

They do! Walk around your neighborhood and visit some churches. Talk to the members of the church and find out just what charity they are involved in.. you might learn somethings.
I find it encouraging that conservatives give more on average than liberals. However, the basis may not be liberal or conservative, but rather belief in religion. Those that are liberal and religious are more charitable than their conservative religious counterparts. Those that are liberal and secular are not as charitable as their conservative religious counterparts. The main factor, according to Robert Putnam, is whether or not a person goes to church.
However Bill Gates and Warren Buffet serve as outliers ($80 billion donated between the two atheists).
I would suspect that community and surrounding has a larger role to play.
So part of the reason why conservatives are more charitable is because they are more likely to belong to churches that have a social priority on charity. However, they contradict the lessons of charity and giving by defunding social programs that can do (and have done) GREATER good for society in general.
Here's a better idea. All you Liberals and Progressives that care so much, open your damn wallets and lend a hand! Oh no, you'd rather someone else pay? Gotcha!
The biggest homeless (and social) charities in my city are owned and operated by the church. The OP is clearly clueless about what churches actually do to help the community.

Yes we do. We need to just let them go and forget about them if they don't want any real help.
