Yeah.

Shakespeare.

So pornographic.

I don't think they care. They'll take the word and interpretation of some hysterical blogger and run with it. Facts are apparently meaningless if it means they can enjoy an anti-gay rant...or is it deep-seated homosexual panic? It's very hard to tell!

There was a time I wouldn't have believed this type of reading material was available in a public school library, let alone recommended or even required for not only high schoolers but middle schoolers as well. But, that was before my 10 year old dd entered middle school in 5th grade in a new district. Then, I saw the type of books being recommended and/or required by her teachers and I started doing some research and discovered books in the school library that contained the type of material described in this story. I doubt that many parents realize what is being pushed on their children in the guise of "literature" in our local bookstores, public libraries and even in our schools. Many of these books come packaged in cute little pink covers. And for those that say even the classics or the Bible have references to sex and profanity, I have read both types of books and there is a glaring difference. One may have references; the other graphic depictions with little or no moral consequences.

You're probably right. There seems to be a kind of mental disconnect involved.

Nope, that's her usual technique - post something inflammatory about gays with only conservative blog-type links, respond (usually in a deflecting manner) a few times, and then ditch the thread when people start to make sense. Not sure why I keep feeding into this BS, but in a way it's kinda fun.

I got a good book out this, so I'm happy and content.

Me too, LOL... and I finally finished that other book, so now I just have to wait for those to arrive!

Ironically, one of our patrons complained about a Young Adult book this week, stating that it "glorified suicide." So for those who said I'm not connected to this issue, now what? I don't know which book it was yet, so it might not be one I personally ordered (plenty of books were there before I arrived). But I told the messenger of this complaint to find out the title, and then refer them to our manager if they want to file an official complaint. The manager and I talked about it later, and we both had the same response... not pulling a book over ONE complaint, can't please everyone, Shakespeare "glorifies" suicide too, and it would be unconstitutional to cave on this. Glad to know she's with me!

Following our conversation, she leaned over and whispered into my ear "I warned you this was a conservative community" and rolled her eyes.

When I had a student (while working at a school library) who was struggling to accept his homosexuality, how do you think he'd feel if we had banned all books that even mentioned the subject? I'll tell you - it would make him feel ashamed, afraid, and like we didn't care about him. I'm glad we can now provide books on these subjects, and whether or not you want to believe it, most of them are actually appropriate for teen readers. Have you read these titles, or are you just frightened by the mere suggestion of gayness?
Thankfully, you don't speak for most Americans.

Keep your degeneracy to yourself and away from Americas innocent children

To all of you who think that homosexuals are a threat to American society: Please seek professional help.

Homosexuality is not the threat.... it is the forced indoctrination to pornograghy and other degenerate topics that kids should not be exposed to

Kind of like Liberals have been trying hard to impose their values on America for sometime now?
