Heck, look at the videos some above have posted. This "super intellectual" ability isn't making a strong case. Like most of the idiots out there that swoon over entertainers, they are enthralled by her entertaining skills, not her intellectual display.

My response was to those going off about how she is qualified and their reasoning was as valid as listening to a groupie at a Backstreet Boys concert.

Now if you would like to provide her qualifications as an adviser, then by all means, lets hear it. Until then, she is simply a pop star chosen to gain marketing appeal.
Until then, she is a woman who began working to assure children educational opportunities at the age of eighteen, when she started her first foundation. She has since gone on to found another organization with a wider scope than her first initiative, and has been a founding member to a third organization, has worked with several other foundations and the World Bank and the United Nations. She has volunteered her time and money to work with children, and has met with leaders around the world to discuss this issue and to promote educational and developmental programs. She is not simply a pop star chosen to gain marketing appeal. She is a celebrity with a solid record of work on educational issues for children, she is Hispanic herself, and has been asked to bring her perspective, gained from being a Hispanic and from being passionately involved with multiple educational initiatives, to an advisory committee on the education of Hispanics in the United States.

those aren't qualifications.

Many entertainers start foundations, dump money into causes, go around promoting one thing or another. It is not a qualification of expertise or knowledgeable of a given subject. If that were so, most of Hollywood would be considered the foremost experts on most causes. /boggle

People bash her because of Obama. Its quite pathetic. Anyone that has followed Shakira's life, knows that she is not like other singers. She has shown great interest in world politics. She doesn't do charity because that is a hip thing to do. She really is interested in making the world a better place. Plus, she reaches millions of people.

No, I think she is an excellent entertainer and I do think she cares about her causes. I however do not think someone who "cares" and is a "popular entertainer" qualifies that person to be an adviser on any topic.

She didn't start her first foundation, at eighteen years of age, as a tax shelter, she started it because she recognized a need and wanted to respond to that need. Her passion for this cause over decades clearly suggest that she would acquire a knowledge of the subject. Your failure to acknowledge that people, even curvaceous celebrities, can acquire an expertise on a topic they are interested in over more than a decade shows that you are not being open-minded. You are entrenched in a point of view, and refuse to consider anything to the contrary.

Maybe, we can convince President Obama to give her to your country. We would rather have someone that guys aren't drooling all over. Do you really think they are listening to her for her..........brain. Sorry, Pop Stars are not political people, this would be like asking Britteny Spears.

World Politics............ her main goal it seems is to make sure America is open to "Open Borders" if I can convince Obama, we'll send her your way.

Being a fan of Shakira, I have known about her work in education.
HOWEVER,
She was only appointed as this simply because of the Obama fan base knowing about her.. since she's essentially a pop star, and they know a lot of stuff that doesn't matter.

OH MAH GAD, OBAMA PICK SHAK-EERA. HE GREAT.

Obama seems to have a hard time finding qualified people to work for him. Wonder why???

Would you want to work for a little tin god that had established the habit of tossing his own under the bus?
