You need to do more research. Just because the media, which is well known to be anti gun, doesn't show defensive uses of guns doesn't mean they don't happen.

GunCite-Gun Control-How Often Are Guns Used in Self-Defense?

Even taking the low figure for the number of times they're used to prevent crime it amounts to guns being used 60x more for defense than to kill someone.

NRA-ILA | Armed Citizen how many of these stories have you seen reported nationally? Almost none probably.

No they aren't, you guys just believe whatever you read on this forum. Not all liberals are anti-gun (I am not, for example), and "most" certainly are not kooks... or do you really think more than 50% of the country is kooky? Maybe so, but that definitely isn't limited to liberals.

All he stated was that individual was a kook. Yes, anyone who thinks that girl should have left herself at the scumbag's mercy is a kook.

Considering you are the one that brought Russia into it, it most certainly is related.

It is entirely possible that once he kicked the back door in, she was no longer in any position to leave the house without being seen and caught. In a physical confrontation (hand-to-hand) a 12-year-old girl is no match for a grown man.
Also, in one of you posts, you stated 2 to 5 minutes for police to respond. But with a knife, it only take 2 to 5 seconds to cut someone's throat. That makes a 2 minute response time one minute fifty seconds too late. But, with your statements, I have to wonder... Do you wish (for some reason or other) that it would be easier for criminals to do things like this????

The odd part against your argument is that hand guns are illegal in Canada, yet check the statistics and see just how many crimes are committed with hand guns in Canada each year. Just because they may be illegal does not mean that the criminal element will abide by the law. But, it does make law abiding citizens less able to defend themselves when there are no police in the immediate vicinity.

I'm afraid your argument is baseless.

I find it ludicrous that anyone is finding fault with a 12 year old girl who was put in the position to defend herself against someone that broke into her home, then searched and pursued her to the closet where she was attempting to hide and she shot and wounded him. Get a grip.

There is nothing wrong with using force when dealing with monsters..Some people actually are so stupid that they take pride in their own evil...They talk about "bullying" these days and how kids could and should deal with it- Growing up as the son of an immigrant..being picked on and persecuted as a kid- My older brother was bullied..The beat him silly and gangs would chase him home- I remember him crying constantly...I was a bit of a coward but a careful observer.

Finally I stepped up and found out I had fast hands and a natural skill for hand to hand fighting...I took on the toughest guys in my hood...one at a time I over came them- I fought my way to respect...respect for my self- and my family- finally- we had peace and freedom..it took aggression - skill...and bravery...Liberals who want to give a thug a hug are dreaming...When you are attacked...you repel them..with force...Humans are dumb apes in general and all the gentle conversation and liberal benevolence will fail.

If I was being threatened...I would strike before the full threat was even verbalized...my favorite game was to fain fear - retreat...cause the aggressor to bloat in pride- then take them out...

This young girl did what had to be done...If people stood up for themselves -there would be no aggression...some people can not be reasoned with and force is all they will understand...sorry to say- this is the state of the world...We are surrounded by violent monkeys - don't let evil win!

Enlightening how much gun use is going on in the US. Good links, thanks.

No, he didn't... he said most liberals are kooks, and that is not an individual. Nice try, though.

Speaking of entertainment, I think many people would be really surprised how many rounds per week are fired by people just out having fun plinking or in competitions. Most ranges have some kind of match every week. At one time I was shooting over 2,000 rounds a month in competition, practice for matches and just fun plinking. It wouldn't surprise me if there were over 10,000,000 (million) rounds fired / month in the US, there might be that many fired / week. I've read there are an estimated 2.5 billion rounds of just 22 long rifle made / year, all of them probably aren't fired but enough of them are that they keep making them in those volumes. U.S. sees shortage of ammunition claims there were 12 billion rounds of ammunition bought in 1 year (2009) by people in the US.

That adds up to a lot of people shooting a lot of rounds and getting pretty good at it, it's no surprise that a fair number of them are forced to use them to defend themselves.

I'm just curious, how many people commenting on this are from Oklahoma?
we have the "make my day law" here. citizens of the state of Oklahoma have
the right to expect absolute safety within their homes or places of
business. (yes, the law was just expanded to include your work). I've lived in
Tulsa my entire life. the only thing that little girl did wrong was she stopped
shooting before he stopped breathing. I own many rifles, shotguns, and a few
handguns. all of which my 12 year old daughter uses very well. moral of the story,
if you break into a house in Oklahoma (or Texas for that matter) be prepared to pay
the consequence. someone should give her a medal
