Why?

I studied the Bible in a comparative religion class in college. There was no outrage.

There is a huge difference between teaching the history of a religion and teaching that religion.

And once again people apparently can't distinguish between education and proselytizing.

Princess Anne High School.

World History 1 taught the beginnings of multiple religions and how it affected history, which included understanding of the religion's tenants.

This included Islam, Christanity, Hinduism, Buddhism, Shintoism, etc.

Interesting seeing as how we learned about the Sikh community and religion in history class back in the 1970's during High School. Maybe it was just a foward thinking teacher. I remember a whole segment on their contribution during WWII in this country. Fierce fighters, thee is a reason they call them the Lions of War.

I have many business aquaintances in the Sikh community locally. Very patriotic and solid contributing members to our society. They take care of their own and very rarely are a drag on societal resources as a group.

Exactly. I was taught Greek and Roman Mythology in elementary school, but the teacher did not tell us that it was true and to live our lives believing that Zeus was living on Mt. Olympus looking down upon us.

This is law in California and the intent is to reduce ignorance and increase appreciation for diversity.

How is learning about a different culture harmful to anyone?

Touche'. In spite of being called a warrior religion Sikhs are totally harmess and have a very peaceful history in the US. Being studied historically, like said above is no different than studying Greek, Norse or even Witch craft.

Comparative religion classes are not a problem.

Teaching a CURRICULUM that PROMOTES or views everything through a religious lens - ANY RELIGION - is a first class ticket to problems.
