No no no. There is a difference. If I know for a fact that said person is a gang member, then said person is not going to be invited to my party. Profiling is making an assumption based on race and then acting on it. If you don't know the facts on an individual, then it's profiling.

So... given that, gun control laws accomplish what?

Nothing. As evidenced by Chicago and its suburbs.

I lived in a house with about 2 or 3 guns. I knew where they were. I never touched them. I was taught to value life. Some people aren't taught that. It is about attitude, upbringing, culture, feelings of hopelessness, anger, things that profiling can't solve.

How would you know that for a fact? Do they have "gang member" tattooed on their foreheads? Or are they profiled?

Profiling won't deter criminals either. People who don't care if they live or die are willing to take other people with them. Gang members who look at prison as a badge of honor won't care either.

We're already there, man. Gun control tactics have failed.

Profiling helps us target highly likely individuals and disarm them before they can act in the ways you describe. And don't think for a minute I'm limiting this to Black people. The others who have committed the not as frequent mass murders are more often than not on physician-prescribed psychotropic drugs (the recent Sandy Hook shooting). That should also be an indicator for profiling.

Gang members often have tatoos and also wear certain colors. If you've met a few it's pretty easy to spot one. They tend to have a dress code.

So what? That just mean that a lot of them are more poor or low income.

So why the frequent cases of mistaken identity killings? The perps can't even tell each other apart.
