Sheesh. I don't usually start threads here, but this really gets my goat out.

The Daily Dot - A Mexican-American boy sang the National Anthem, and racist NBA fans can't handle it

I mean, just look at the hateful Twitter comments shown on the page. It's truly disgusting. What a bunch of ignorant bigotry. Do these buffoons realize that people can have a different skin color and native language and come from outside our borders and still be 100% American?

The kid sounded better than just about any other rendition I've heard from other socalled professional AMERICAN singers.

I could understand every word he sang. Good for him.

On edit: I just re-read all of the tweets and I suspect some may have been meant as a stab at comedy. Still, there were some very mean-spirited things said. What is wrong with people?

Well I just saw his performance and the kid belt it out of the park sort to say! I don't think it was "racist" NBA fans considering most NBA players are black! Moreso ignorant trolls who have issues with Immigration?
We will never stop those!

Tweets from sports fans are the worst! Remember when Washington beat Boston in that hockey game, it was horrible. I don't even follow tweets anymore unless it's some emergency.

Yeah, those people couldn't be racist. It's impossible.

Well, I don't think racism or prejudice or bigotry is confined to any one culture or group of people. These things are human traits and any human of any color, nationality, gender, etc. can possess them.

Ha! True. I reckon a lot of people say all kinds of crud on the internet they'd never say in real life. For one thing, so many people are anonymous or use a screen name. Some people go on forums, etc. specifically to stir stuff up and be annoying and irksome. Then, of course, there's the layers of electronic filter between them and whoever may end up seeing / reading / hearing them go off.

I sometimes forget how pervasive the digital/electronic world really is. I was in my late 20s before I ever had a computer in my home. Now there's a whole generation who've never known life without the internet and Google and YouTube and FaceBook and tons of other sites, not to mention music as mp3 files, video games, downloadable books, etc. I'm not saying these are bad things at all--this isn't meant to be an old man "Get off my lawwwwn!" rant. I am in awe of what computers can do. But I'm kind of glad I grew up when I did, before electroncs became so ubiquitous. Heck, my daughters just entered their teen years and they and most of their friends interact more electronically than they do in the physical world. My older daughter's "boyfriend" lives over 1500 miles away and she's never met him except online. Most of the people she considers besties are online or on Xbox Live or something.

That's just odd to me.

Now, back to your regularly-scheduled thread.

^ Griffis? I understand your rant! We have become "electronic Zombies" living in our own world not socializing with people. This is the way the world is today though. Remember when you used to have to go to college to get a degree? "Online courses"! Is it convienient? Yes!
Social interaction is meaningfull.
