Open the border and in ten years Canada would look like parts of Detroit - a ghost town.
The border isn't there to keep Americans out of Canada - it's there to keep Canadians IN Canada.
Canada has 35 million people receiving services. According to their own bean counters they need 60 million to keep things solvent. They don't have enough Canadians even with immigration. Tax rates will rise and if they had the option, they would split.
Oh sure, we really want your illegals pouring in by the millions. Thank you, but no. We like to choose who we let in.
I am all for it if American authorities can guarantee that American social ills do not spread north like a disease.....I don't think that is possible. For instance the new phenomena of gangster gun crime has now infested Canada- We have a boarder but it did not stop American gun runners from shipping arms north.
So the solution to a problem whereby we're providing services to, as you say, 35 million people will be solved by offering services to 60 million people?
They would get the same or better service in the US for less. We're stupid that way. US tax rates should be far more regressive.

Haar, that's rich; the border's there because you lost a war, whanna try again?
Split? Oh yeah, that makes sense. We're all paying so much more in taxes we'd all move to a place where we'd have to double down to pay even more for stupid health insurance to even come close to duplicating the coverage we have in Canada. Yeppers
Uuuh; you're referencing a post by a "Murikan" there, in case you missed that little conundrum.
