I call BS on Walmart regarding this ignorant threat. The minimum wage here is $10.75 per hour and there are more freakin Walmarts than you can shake a stick at. Personally I never shop at a Walmart. There is absolutely nothing I like about them, their service, their stores, their anti labour practises or anything else about them.
Yes, I do, to some degree. I'm not saying everyone can do what I can. But most people could. They'd just rather save a buck or two and not think about why the crap they buy at Walmart is so damn cheap.
The stores shut down when Wal-Mart comes to town deserve to be shut down. They have been overcharging their customers for decades. You can always identify who the business owners in any small town are. They live in the big houses on the hill overlooking the people they have been fleecing forever. Those "boss hogs" pull the strings of the town governments.
Huh. And I could have sworn that you're one of those "Rich people deserve everything they have, and everything you have, too, because they're so awesome and rich" types.
Guess you only say that when we're talking about Democrats hating on rich people, hm?
Nonsense you know what passes for grocery stores in these neighborhoods? Poorly stocked mom and pop Korean stores that carry over priced expired items. Some of you literally have no clue how people live beyond your own narrow world and ideology. Yet you claim to be so concerned for the downtrodden.
I do understand it quite well. I'm just talking about a small thing I can do with my limited means. I'm horribly in debt due to divorce, two layoffs in 8 years and 2 kids in college. I've been poor more than I've been comfortable in my life. I'll thank you not to talk down to me.
We should get rid of the min wage. Raising it doesn't reduce poverty or shift the profits to the workers. Raising the min wage does make labor more expensive though and we all know what happens when you raise the price of services/products.
Of course. That's the point. I'm willing to pay more so we have a proper economy again. Are you?

No, but they have more prosperous economies and more social welfare safety nets than we do. Argument fail.

My personal quality of life is fine, thanks. Unlike you, I'm thinking about other people and the country as a whole.
You carry on driving the nation to the bottom, I'll carry on doing what I do. Enjoy yourself.

Well gee if I can get a 12 pack of Coke for $2.50 at Wal-Mart and my local grocery store sells the same thing for $5 why on earth would I but the grocery store Coke? I mean maybe you like throwing money away but I prefer budgeting it and directing it to other uses.
Hey, I'd jump on board with the assumption that most of their employees only work there because they don't have any other options except maybe fast food. That doesn't mean they're being "screwed over", though. It's a stepping stone sort of job, and none of this is a new concept for people who have been employed in general any place at any time.
This sounds like either a flaw in the government assistance program or a flaw regarding the local minimum wage. Which is the local government's responsibility. As it turns out, in this case at least, it's the guilty dog that's barking in Wal-Mart's general direction. As I said earlier, these are the folks determining 8.25 is enough. All Wal-Mart did was go along with it.
Oh I definitely think minimum wage should be changed to living wage. The two should be the same thing and set at a city/state level, with a national minimum/living wage across the country.
