What the hell is going on in that city? Oh wait never mind democrats have been in control for years. The transformation has occurred in Detroit and Chicago is not far behind.

"Chicago Public Schools officials today released maps of routes where security will be provided for the thousands of children going to new schools this year.

The so-called "safe passage" routes are designed to smoothly shift students from 47 schools being closed this year to nearby schools. (Click HERE to see maps)
Parents have voiced concern about children crossing rival gang territories and passing empty buildings and vacant lots. Some of them have complained that CPS has been late releasing the maps.

Training for safe passage workers, originally targeted by CPS for this week, is now set to begin next Thursday.

CEO Barbara Byrd-Bennett said the maps are being mailed to every student affected by closings as well as being posted on district’s website.

“They are not embedded in stone,” she said. “It’s a daily communication, daily opportunity. Where we know there may be an incident, we trust the Chicago police department and our safety and security to make sure we are informed and updated regularly.”

Police Supt. Garry McCarthy said the same police unit that planned for NATO is planning for the back to school week when students from 47 closed elementary schools will be walking to designated neighborhood schools. He said police will be patrolling the routes. District commanders will have specific plans for each route."

As if we needed any more evidence regarding the hypocrisy of the Democratic Party and their co-conspirators in the liberal press, the fact that both of those hopeless entities repeatedly described Zimmerman as a white Hispanic clearly shows how they're still fighting the civil rights battles of the sixties, since absolutely NOBODY escept a racist talks like that, nor are Hispanics described as such.

It also proves irrefutably that race-baiting hucksters such as Jackson & Sharpton as well as Dingell, Conyers, Waters, Rangel and tons of others are nothing more than hypocrites who can't do anything else besides play the race card over and over.

Am I being too logical here ?
Student enrollment has substantially declined in some areas of Chicago for the obvious reasons. The closed schools were minimally operating at a half-empty state. Most of the closed schools were in old decaying gang infested areas.

Students will be bussed when their new school is more than .8 mile from their old school.

The mayor decided to close underutilized or low performing schools and redistrict. This action will also save a boatload of money.

The CPS Teachers Union ( the historical backbone of the Democratic machine) has been and remains up in arms about the whole thing.

The union is none too happy about losing jobs. Parents are unhappy with change, despite that their children will be attending higher performing schools. It will be interesting to observe if the surviving school rankings are impacted by the redistricting.

The community remains silent, either because they are protecting their own or out of fear.
Instead they blame the Police.

Or move.

And that's the #1 reason why most of the closed schools were operating at < 50% of capacity.

That was, I believe, Gary, Indiana.

It's population in less than 100K so it, like Camden, NJ don't pop on the Most Dangerous Places lists.

My dad and aunt grew up there. My dad went to Fenger high that was reference in the article. He said it was a tough neighborhood back then but would never even go near it today.

Fenger is in the Roseland Community which was and remains anything but rosy. Back in the day, most residents were employed by the Steel Mills in Gary, Pullman, other assorted industrial businesses and local businesses that supported them. Competition and technology caused massive lay-offs and plant closings and subsequent white flight, beginning in the 60's.
