It's not a dodge at all, it's a perfectly coherent and complete position that does not require any elaboration or supplementation of any kind.

Um you or someone tried to use they do not "want" x as an excuse, then turn around and say tough cookies.

You see the issue here?

There are two issues. One, it is wrong in principle to expend the money and lives of our own people to solve foreign political problems. Two, it is futile in practlce to force alien forms of government on an unreceptive population. Those two considerations are not the same, but there is no contradiction in them.

We can split the oil profits for bringing some stability to the country.

It would be a win win for both parties.
No the USA needs to mind our own business and let Iraq sort itself out. I am sure many said the same about Iran. We may not agree with them or like them, but they seem to be governing themselves ok without us. Iraq was doing ok until we broke it.
Not all cultures are ready for a western style democracy. Some cultures don't want it anyway. Who are we to dictate their needs?

And here I thought this was another thread about the USA.

For once we agree completely. The function of our military isn't and never was to play world cop, nation build or dictate to another country how to manage its internal affairs. We could save billions if not more if only we learned to mind our own business.

Which is the better evil?

Put your money where your mouth is and head on down to your local recruiters' office, then.

Thanks in advance for your service. I having a sneaking suspicion you might not feel your pay is being "compensated well", however.

Why, in the wild world of sports, do you suppose it is our responsibility to decide the "better evil" for these folks?

Might be a shock for you guys but there are actually people and countries that enjoy helping people and countries.

I am sure all the women, children and non extremists of Iraq would love to not have to live in constant civil war and terror.
