I have been to several places this evening (Whole Foods, mall, and Target) and it seemed like few people there were speaking English - people were speaking in languages other than English. Does going into a public place and hearing a lack of English, especially in a nonethnic neighborhood, bother you?
Well after the first few posts; would it be safe to say that did not go as expected?
No, but it bothers me that our government bends over to facilitate a certain group. In public I don't care. I speak Thai to my wife when I want the conversation to be semi-private. Public places people are free to speak what ever language they like.

If people are holding private conversations in other languages, why should I care what language they are speaking in? But general public announcements, then they should be in English as we are in the USA.

My neighborhood Walmart is like that. I refuse to shop there. The people that refuse to speak English are often uneducated and low class welfare grubbing creeps.
No it doesn't. What does bother me is that when I lived in LA and went to Jack in the Box for lunch Spanish was spoken through the drive thru.
Another time I stopped into a Jons supermarket in East Hollywood and could not find 1 worker who spoke English, if the place was named Juans I would have expected it.
Ethnic restaurants and stores you can expect people to speak another language, no problems with that.
Customers can speak whatever language they choose, but when you deal with an American chain store or public office (DMV, Unemployment office, etc..) CLEAR, easy to understand English should be spoken first, not a foreign language, Ebonics or Hood slang when dealing with the public.

Wonderful. Here we go again. This thread will likely be deleted soon.
To answer the question: no it doesn't bother me. Why should it? It's none of my business what others are speaking, if they are speaking at all, or if they are grunting like apes. If we are going to dictate the lives of others, I'd prefer what other people look like to be mandated rather than how other people sound. But ultimately, I don't want anything mandated except minding your own business unless I'm somehow harming you--and I'm not harming you by speaking any language I like. I believe in liberty for all, not just for myself.
The OP seems to think the freedom of speech part of the Constitution was followed by "in English." So weird how the ones that moan about Obama and the Constitution are complete idiots when it comes to what it actually means.
