Today on the lunch menu at my child's school is pizza, from a pizza chain. It's not healthy but thanks to Michelle Obama's, "Healthy Lunch Program" the portions are smaller. So the kids will still get unhealthy food, just less of it and they pay the same price as they did before. It really is a wonderful program and will solve our country's obesity crisis, I'm sure of it!
How about this little hint at parenting ... PACK YOUR CHILD'S LUNCH .... Then you KNOW exactly what they are getting and how much ... But I guess it is easier to complain the government isn't doing it right.

Then what is the point? If the fat kid can simply bring in a bag full of Twinkies and cookies, what exactly is the point?
The point is to have healthy food on offer at school. Sure, if the parents are worthless and don't care that their fat slug eats nothing but cookies and twinkies then that is their choice, provided they buy it and pay for it themselves, but if they buy the food from the school because they're too lazy to pack a lunch for their kid (or worse get it for free from the taxpayers) then it should be healthy.
That someone even has to explain this to you says something about your own mental acuity.

I stated a couple of times that I do pack my kid's lunch 99% of the time. My problem with the school lunch program is that we have spent billions on a program that doesn't really do much to make school lunches healthier. If we are going to spend billions then I think it would be good to see lunches that really are significantly healthier. What's on the menu this month in your district?

The tightened restrictions, intended to combat childhood obesity, have driven more than 1 million students away from school lunches and created over $1 billion per year in food waste since they were implemented in 2012.
The drastic drop-off in lunch sales is prompting an increasing number of school districts to ditch the regulations and attached federal funding to save their floundering cafeteria programs. Just this week, two other New York school districts dropped out.
District 214 administrators told CBS the unreasonable restrictions on protein, sodium and fat made preparing meals students would buy nearly impossible, while the district-inspired menu “would be far simpler,” according to Johnson

There you go. I've made the argument more than once and not one of you brainiacs have disputed it. There is no such thing as a one size fits all program for anyone. If you would go to a specialist you would get a diet specifically tailored to you.
The purpose of the school lunch program is to provide a LUNCH for the typical student. There are higher calorie allotments in the high school lunches. The SLP is not supposed to provide all the calories a student needs for the entire day, nor for athletic practice. Don't the coaches have a budget to provide snacks?
Seems the students and more and more systems are disagreeing. It won't be long before the regulations are history.

I didn't say that school lunch's will be dropped. I said the asinine regulations will be.

I just posted where the second largest system in Illinois dropped the program (note, they did not end school lunches). Earlier there was an article where two systems in NY dropped the regulations. It will continue.
