The bottom line and danger of this police militarization are far beyond fighting drug dealers, thieves and domestic abuses on the street. IMHO, police militarization could POTENTIALLY pose the following concerns or problems for a government.

a. A militarized police force could POTENTIALLY become a formidable challenge to the military IF a rouge politician, wacko state political group or organization decided to turn on the Government and used a militarized police forces within their states to do it.

b. There is always thePOSSIBILITY, that some individual, group or organizationally is behind the approval of these government programs to militarize the police with long term anti-government intentions?

c. There are close to 1,000,000 police nationally in the United States. A national militarized police force of this strength, equipped with tanks, missiles, and other military hardware could become a POTENTIAL danger to the government and seriously challenge the military.

The American Civil war, Adolph Hitler's secret police, Bosnia, Iraq and other civil wars around the globe should be enough evidence to prove that allowing police or militia groups to arm to the point where they become become de-fac-to military organization is not good and a POTENTIAL threat to any government.

Anyone remember steven seagal? Remember the over use of force with a tank? Steven Seagal Sued For Killing Puppy, 'Overkill' Arrest On Reality Show 'Lawman'
Actor Steven Seagal Sued for Driving Tank into Arizona Home, Killing Puppy - Forbes

Give law enforcement tools of force, and they will use it unnecessarily.

Yes, you.

Your are totally behind it.

Police are under local civilian control.

Let us review the facts, so that you may all understand your roles as accomplices:

1] You told your mayor and city council to militarize your police department; and
2] Your mayor and city council did exactly what you told them to do.

What is very sinister here, is people refusing to accept responsibility for their actions.

Today's civics lesson....

I know for a fact that the Chicago Police Dept is out manned and out gunned by the street gangs in large parts of the South and West sides of Chicago.... Maybe the OP wants to only issue Billy clubs like the good ole' days in London

Sure. Federal government should not put its trust into a militarized police force, because Police are political tools and henchmen for the states and local political they fall under. State and local politicians will utilize their local police to achieve their political objectives and it's been proven time and time again, throughout the world.

Police officers in NATO member recently tried to overthrow their standing government:

That is what they are implying....... they should still be using Smith & Wesson Model-10 4" .38 special revolvers...tear gas instead of OC pepper spray. The haircuts are long scraggly haircuts like in the 70's and early 80's. (Pre mid 90s) The eye-wear is big, thick, dorky coke bottle glasses instead of laser surgery....Uniforms that are sloppy fitting and very civilian looking....(think mall security)......and Honda Accords instead of Dodge SRT8 Chargers. https://c1.staticflickr.com/9/8471/8...b696890c_z.jpg

I also am amused at how many people think body cameras are a great idea, however upgraded weapons and tactics are not. Typical of people who think filming an event is more important than putting an END to it. The comments about needing tanks, mortars, missiles and whatnot are comical too. Most don't have or need those kind of weapons. We're talking about a M-16/AR-15 vs a Winchester 1894 30-30.....or a Benelli M2/3/4 instead of a Remington 870 pump. A Glock G-22, Sig Sauer P-229, HK USP-40, Beretta 92FS, S&W M&P 40 instead of a S&W Model 10 or 66..... Level III A body armorer with trauma plates over a level II A that is only pistol rated.

Someone who has actual combat training and is proficient with their weapons and tactics vs someone who qualifies once a year with a hundred rounds .38 special 148 grain wadcutters shot out of their S&W Model 66 .357 magnum in the Chiefs back yard.

Did anyone even talk about driving skills yet? You use that more than anything else. You better be pretty good at it.

Well my opinion as stated before is citizens should have access to the same weapons police do so vice versa the police should have access those weapons too. I don't think you can expect the police to walk around with pea shooters if the people they are policing could have AK-47's. While the need for such weapons is rare it's inevitable it will happen again, I would predict at some time in the future we'll be dealing with a situation where many armed terrorists are going to do exactly what those two did. The police need to be prepared for such an incident.
