Duly noted!

B.S.!!! Cuba had one of the best economy in the Latin countries before Castro lied to the Cuban people and once he got to power and brought by force communism their economy went down the toilet with their civil liberties.

What Castro did was take ownership of all American investments in the island and confiscated every private property and personal bank accounts of everybody including All Cubans that's why millions fled to the U.S.A and Castro gave the finger to all investors and refused to pay Cuba's debt.

Not only that, Castro took the side of the Soviets during the Cold War to bring down the U.S.A.

If Obama wants to forgive and forget all that with the same regime then what guarantees Americans will get that the Castro's brothers won't do the same thing again if they invest in the island?

I'd say when a situation has been in place over 50 years, that is normal.

Change will happen slowly, though. Cuba isn't the Dubai of the Caribbean by a long shot.

What was the quid pro quo?

This. Now I need to step up my timeframe.

There are no winners. It's been a 55 year failure on both sides.

We basically tried to starve out a nation in our own hemisphere because they had the temerity to want our boot off of their necks. That's one of the most shameful episodes in our history. It never had to be that way but we were intransigent and unyielding in this idea that WE should dictate Cuba's path forward, and not THEM.

Semi colonialism doesn't work against smart and strong people, especially when the colonialist doesn't even have enough tact to hide his duplicity.

The Cubans failed for a million different reasons...you and I both know how and why.

Why should there be one?

What's been the quid pro quo for our present relationship with China or Vietnam?

And having an embargo against a sovereign nation in your own hemisphere...despite the fact that they've never attacked or harmed you, ISN'T normal.

Wow. As a youth I never thought to see the Soviet Union dissolve or the Berlin Wall fall. Now, I am again fortunate to witness something else that seemed to be etched in stone: the embargo of Cuba.

Times they are a-changing.

Cuba is communist. I bet as long as it stays communist, foreigners won't be allowed to own land. Even in capitalist countries in Asia, it's hard for foreigners to buy land

I watched Obama's speech live.Obama just said something in Spanish, how many RWNJ heads will explode on this board from that?
