A different approach has been long overdue.

The Embargo has not achieved its intended goal in 50+ years.

Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result is insane.

Meanwhile, the people of Cuba have continued living under backwardness and repression.

Hopefully, this different approach will render better results for both countries.

He gets a lot of south Florida Cuban votes, and they don't want this unless the Cuban government gives them back their ancestors land.

Sorry, common good is served by this.

Obama should be impeached over this.

And how will this end the repression???? All this is doing is propping up the Castro regime with Gringo money. You know, the same way we prop up the Chinese communist regime.

Name one single concession Cuba is giving us? Are they going to turn over Victor Manuel Gerena or Assata Shakur?

What's your take on the whole thing?
Yeah, but the truth is that in Cuba, one bad government after another is the historical norm.

In the end, there hasn't been much of a "revolution" as you've stated, but the beginnings were actually pretty radical.

One of the great success stories is the literacy campaign that Castro started. That was an astounding achievement. And of course, making college accessible to most Cubans was also pretty radical at the time.

But absolute power corrupts absolutely...

And it didn't help that we drove Castro into the arms of the Soviets. That didn't have to happen.

Sad thing is that after 55 years, the relationship with Cuba in 2014 hasn't been of any benefit to the Cubans or Americans. And we're both worse for wear because of it.

This thread got off to a slow start, given the importance of the breaking news. I guess those tied to a particular political party (or radio personality) were waiting to 'see what I think'.

Now that some, like Mr. Boehner (I do not know if Rush has provided his opinion yet) has spoken, this thread grow quickly.
