Oh right; you know Canadians and Europeans were just in awe of his socialist paradise. Cripes; I've read some stupid posts, but that one's a benchmark.
Even Fidel's socialist utopia can't claim half of his people reliant upon government EBT cards to just feed themselves. You certainly can't accuse him of handing out Bush/Obama phones to baby momma's with multiple kiddies from multiple daddies on multi generational welfare.
You wouldn't know a "socialist country" if your were born in one...oh wait.......
Puhhhlleeeeezzeee...
I have visited Cuba. It's a typical Latin American thugogracy run by a Caudillo in uniform.
Yea you cannot accuse him of handing out phones. That's because hardly anybody there even has a telephone that works!
And how will this end the repression???? All this is doing is propping up the Castro regime with Gringo money. You know, the same way we prop up the Chinese communist regime.
Name one single concession Cuba is giving us? Are they going to turn over Victor Manuel Gerena or Assata Shakur?
So therefore you suggest continuation of The FAILED Embargo which has yet to produce its intended objective?
Let's do something different for a change.
If 50 years down the road this too fails, we can always resuscitate The FAILED Embargo.
Republicans begin their regular strategy of fearmongering (from a CNN article):
But some Republicans are warning the move will only strengthen the Castro regime in Cuba, which has long been accused of human rights abuses and is listed by the State Department as a state sponsor of terrorism.

And yet, we still trade with China.......
Do they forget that Saudi's cut peoples heads off in the main square of Riyadh every day?
I'm looking forward to seeing MLB put an American League team in Havana; Cubans love baseball. It will create a big market for travel to Cuba to see our own teams play there, including spring training baseball when it's cold and snowy in the northern USA. I'd love to have Keith Olbermann and George Will do some play by play of the games there.....
Once again Obama delivers a masterstroke to make the GOP spit tacks; it further cements the DEMs as the party that really does care about them. American firms will finally get a slice of that pie. Americans will get a change to travel there. Nothing but good will come of this.

Cuba is little country that really is not important or a threat. We do business with China, Russia, and other more potentially dangerous nations. But this little island nation was some how a threat?
We forced Castro into the arms of the Soviets. From day one we were hostile. Now there is no doubt that Castro is a dictator, but many of our allies are.
Sanctions were implemented in October 1960, and strengthened in February 1962 to include all exports.
We are almost in 2015, high time to get this over with. In January it will be 56 years since Castro came to power.
