Ohhh those classic cars held together by rubber bands and glue now lol. But it does have a classic feel to it, starving locals amongst the beautiful plants and Cuban Amazon parrots chattering in the trees. I see the tourist industry is already drooling at the prospects. God forbid we should disrupt it in any fashion. NIKE will be thrilled to market to the youth there.

I will do all in my power to block the use of funds to open an embassy in Cuba. Normalizing relations with Cuba is bad idea at a bad time.
Obama will have a fight on his hands just opening up an embassy it appears.
I imagine that Senator Graham will come around. After all, when President Clinton reopened diplomatic relations with Vietnam in 1995, one Senator that was all for it was Senator McClain (and no one would have thought it strange if he opposed such actions).
Lindsey Graham first entered Congress via the House of Representatives in 1995. I wonder what he thought of President Clinton's actions at that time?
The Cuban people should decide what their culture should be..not you..or me.
And I'm sure that they will choose mid-century communist bloc.
Btw, Hispaniola (right next door to Cuba) has been open for US travel all along, has that island been destroyed by American culture (Starbucks and such)
Yes. That about sums it up, I suppose. American culture in the 50s was not so totally dominant and homogeneous like it is today, though. Even here, we had some uniqueness. Cuba is in a kind of time warp. I wonder how long it will take for US buyers to grab up all those 50s cars.
Some of them. Others, I am sure, are chomping at the bit to start commercial enterprises doing business in Cuba. There is a fortune to be made bringing that country up to 21st century standards.
And how will this end the repression???? All this is doing is propping up the Castro regime with Gringo money. You know, the same way we prop up the Chinese communist regime.
Name one single concession Cuba is giving us? Are they going to turn over Victor Manuel Gerena or Assata Shakur?
The best way to end repression in Cuba is to bombard the place with millions of American tourists extolling their views on freedom, private property, elected government, and human rights.
Beats the hell out of the millions of fawning Canadians and Europeans who travel their and swoon over Fidel and his "socialist system."
I would love to travel to Cuba while it still has the mid-50s look and feel. In a short while, it will be overrun with American culture and that will be lost forever.
It's a great place to visit. The people are super friendly, the architecture, food and sights are amazing. It's also very cheap and very safe. I was able to go direct out of Miami on a student visa a few years ago, but I know Americans can go through Canada or Mexico.

Beats the hell out of the millions of fawning Canadians and Europeans who travel ? their ? and swoon over Fidel and his "socialist system."
Oh right; you know Canadians and Europeans were just in awe of his socialist paradise. Cripes; I've read some stupid posts, but that one's a benchmark.
Even Fidel's socialist utopia can't claim half of his people reliant upon government EBT cards to just feed themselves. You certainly can't accuse him of handing out Bush/Obama phones to baby momma's with multiple kiddies from multiple daddies on multi generational welfare.
You wouldn't know a "socialist country" if your were born in one...oh wait.......

Geez...think everything in life is about Starbucks, Applebee's, and Bed, Bath and Beyond?
Typical American.
There are other things in life besides 5 dollar cups of coffee and having True Religion stamped on your ass.
