I don't call anyone names, other than their given names, if I know their names.

As I recall, it was your own example that started the 'thug' business (which I see you now want to rescind).

'Everyday info'? You are extrapolating, badly.

If you asked 100 people who are regulars on the POC forum if 'thug' is another word for Black teenager, I believe all 100 would agree (if they are honest). Of course, I suppose some won't admit that.

Too late for you to backtrack.

Unfortunately, we have mainstreamed this vile theory here in our country, as the Europeans have also. So now the false idea that there are different "races" of humans is taught in our public schools and mindlessly accepted by the masses without really any question or objection.

So to answer the question in the OP, the vast majority of Americans are racist, because they accept and believe that this vile and very wrong idea is correct.

Of course what confuses matters is that being a racist is regarded as a bad thing, so rather than accept the fact that nearly everyone in our society is a racist, some people have attempted to redefine it in a way that allows them to be excluded from being characterized in this way. Nevertheless, if you believe that humanity is split into different races, then you are a racist.
This is absolute malarkey.

The idea that we are divided into different races based on variances in our skin pigmentation is patently absurd. There is only one race, the human race.
This is true. The problem is that the idea of "race" and the implied superiority and inferiority of "races" is one of the pillars of this society, and the effects of this have been extraordinarily detrimental to the progress of this land. It is too late, I fear, to reverse its effects.

I doubt that There has to be more involved than just being a black teenager to be a thug. Person does not have to be black or a teenager for that appellation. That is the difference in some groups assume the worse from those who discern(discriminate others call it) but it really is using situational analysis and experience to make that judgement call.

Again the race to call someone a racist.

Actually, it takes less. Simply being black seems to be quite enough.

First of all, the term "people of color' is as fundamentally racist a term as you are likely to see used on this board. The idea is that somehow there is a divide between non-"people of color" (Europeans "whites") and everyone else. That is racism as pure and refined as you are ever likely to see.

Second, even if your prediction was accurate, that is not what a thug is. A thug is based on a persons bad conduct and not their skin color. Anyone with enough of an anti-social attitude can be a thug.

Of course if there is a chip on the shoulder crowd that is eager to use this as yet another reason to play the race (victim) card, that is their problem and not anything that anyone should give any serious consideration or deference to.

Heck, I have lost a job once because I used a "racist" term on the phone and it was total slip of the tongue, so when I hear especially White people say that they are not racist , even when they use racial slurs, trust me, I know what they mean.

I am not by any means trying to justify racism and exclusion as acceptable. I am sure I have had it done to me, even though I always give people the benefit of the doubt and I never buy into the whole race card/victim mentality BS.

So, do you think everybody is racist to a certain degree?
I am a racist.

Yes, being racist is, to a certain extent, a natural human instinct.

To group and identify with those who are most like you is natural...and there is nothing really wrong with it. Letting this instinct turn into hatred for your fellow man, now that is bad!
