Ok...so the title is a little tongue in cheek. I know why Democrats REALLY oppose voter ID laws so fiercly...it stands to potentially impose hardship on one of their key voting demographics. That, regardless of what Democrats will say, is the REAL reason. That being said...I understand why Democrats are so against them and they level the most effective public relations campaign against these laws. The Democrats go with the old yet reliable accusations against Republicans of racism. The best and most effective weapon in the Democrat's toolbelt is the claim that old white men hate brown people. People just eat that one up.
But I'm confused about why Democrats oppose it so much under the pseudo-outrage that it will somehow cause "disenfranchisement." How? How is this argument even quasi-valid? It's riddled with holes. ID cards are freely issued. No one is charged for an identification card and on top of that...they are easy to obtain.
Further, Everyone that is born in this country is born with a Social Security number. In my state (Nebraska) all one needs to obtain a valid, state-issued Identification card is proof that they live in this state (address at a shelter will suffice) and a social security number. How is this a challenge? How does this process "disenfranchise?" Is it honestly that burdensome to take a day from your "busy" schedule of loitering and asking for money to swing by the DMV? I live in a small city and we've got DMV's everywhere. They aren't hard to find.
Why is proving that you are who you say you are and that you live in the state you wish to vote in grounds for accusations of "disenfranchisement?"
Some Big Government drone, Marxist ******* on MSLSD said that expecting someone to present an ID is "unjust" and a "burden" which obviously promotes the "disenfranchisement" of minorities.
He also said that many people(especially minorities) do not have the financial means to get an ID- I think it was like 27 dollars in PA.
It detracts from their own failed agenda & accomplishments. When you don't have a record that you can run on, then create a false bogeyman to fight against.
I guess these are the same liberals who explain to us how undocumented workers (illegals for the rest of AMERICA) can try and claim lottery winnings with dead SS numbers!
nothing to see here, illegals voting is fine. Or the dead and or as many times as needed.
What a really odd post. I'm not much of a democrat (abolish minimum wage, capitalism is awesome) but not much of republican either (seriously people, science is AWESOME.. and God is the bedtime story adults tell to each other)
With that being said. . your post is quite odd. So you start off by saying that the reason democrats oppose it is because the laws target key democratic membership. That is the real reason. you are right.
Then you go on and say how you don't get poor people, and why its so tough. Okay.. that doesn't matter. I don't get people overall, and their choices. Look - its tougher. . .and its been studied, through ample research, that the hurdles executed will lower voter turnout on groups that vote democratic.
You don't mention that the above is also the main reason Republicans are interested in the laws. They did the same calculation, and look to suppress voting. Some idiotic republicans even admitted this publicly (thanks to our Voter id laws, we will give Pennsylvania to Mitt) . .ring any bells.
My opposition is fierce because - the primary goal of this law is to prevent people from "the other side" from voting. We know it is effective - both sides do. And it is definitely unethical.
Note: I know that the "excuse" is to prevent "fraud", which is total spin. . . A weak excuse to say the least. . . 1) Fraud using fake ids/etc is not significant. . would not influence election. 2) Higher/easier fraud items are not being targeted. For instance Absentee voting is far more easy to commit fraud, yet no targeting by Republicans because Absentee = Military = vote republican.

Why does the right want to disenfranchise voters? Could it be that the group disenfranchised tends to vote Democrat?
Maybe the question should be "why can't some democrats figure out how to get a free ID card, while republicans can?" Especially since democrats are more likely to live in dense urban areas with better public transportation and other services while relublicans are more likely to live in less serviced areas.
Ayres and Dhorn, friends of the oibamas and terrorists of ill repute, have been preaching that the 'world' needs to have a say as to who gets elected as prez of the USA because the prez has an impact on the world.
What a co ink a dink! and more votes.
You'd think an informed voter would be the first step, but the public school system, which supports dems, has failed to a point where young people don't even know who fought in the civil or revolutionaty wars let alone be able to identify a leading candidate or elected official from a photo.

Maybe some of these democrats are here illegally.
