Its only a "ridiculous" choice, if someone can prove he would have somehow gotten free insurance from ACA.. I doubt he was in that income range where he would qualify for medicaid...

Other ACA plans, many of them had such large deductibles and monthly premiums, that the bill he has to pay for not having insurance, would be comparable and still have to be paid, had he had it.

What part of this could have been completely avoided? Thats the part I dont get from left wing kooks.

"if only he had signed up for ridiculously high premiums and absurd deductible plans", he wouldn't have had to pay.

Even if true.. Someone would have to pay..

You call it guts, I call it stupidity. But you're right- we are all free to make stupid choices in this country.

God knows I made enough of those bad choices when I was younger and couldn't distinguish the difference between ideology and biology. I thought I was immortal, healthy, and bullet-proof back then, too, and firmly believe God was on my side.

The young always believe that. It seems age does not bring wisdom to everyone, and this is an obvious example of that truth.

In order to call it stupidity, one must have PROOF, that he would have somehow received ACA benefits and been entitled to full subsidies..

how can you make this assumption? What do they earn, please share it with us..

Exactly, this is a perfect example of their own social Darwinism in action: the thinning of the herd... the weak, unprotected & stupid will go first. They are too dense to realize they are the stupid & unprotected.

Exactly.

It looks like the lowest cost plan for him and his wife would have cost $700 a month (assuming no subsidy) and he'd still be facing a $4,000 deductible. Under those circumstances his decision to go naked looks a little different.

Exactly, he would have paid $12,400 for the year, and thats assuming that the insurance would have covered 100% of everything over the deductible.. which is pretty dam close to the bill he received for having a heart attack.

Liberals using this as justification of how wonderful ACA is, better rethink that asinine argument, and fast, because those of us smart enough to think, will laugh in their face.

If he had a brain, he wouldn't have had misfortune (after the heart attack, anyway). He's just a damn fool.

Pre ACA he'd be looking at similar premiums for him and his family. You admit that the premiums are too damn high. Time for universal health care.

Premiums did not increase under the ACA (link below). Prior to the ACA average premiums were increasing at 10% per year. The ACA didn't cause his problems. If your claim is he couldn't afford the premiums then this would also be true pre-ACA, and (using right wing logic) is evidence he was living beyond his means and not putting money into savings for unexpected life events. His claim that he couldn't get health insurance because he is self employed is BS.

Then you should be massively offended by Obamacare, which had $16.5 billions in subsidies in 2014 alone and has already paid out billions more in risk corridor payments to insurance companies.

You champion Obamacare, so paying for other people's healthcare obviously doesn't bother you (or you could just be a receiver and not a payer, I'm not sure). You are just offended that this guy didn't go to a website and sign up.
