You get it thru your employer?

Or if not, is your income high enough that you don't qualify for a subsidy?

Raising $17,000 to pay for serious medical problems and a heart attack is like trying to put out a house fire by standing there and pissing on it!

Well, insurance doesn't work that way.

Premiums paid by women, for example, go to covering things like testicular and prostate cancer, even though they can't get it.

As far as maternity coverage, the vast majority of pregnancies involve people of both sexes.

She stated in another post in this thread that she had 30 years in the health care industry. I'd wager it's one of the better employee HC plans, even considering it's Texas.

Could be. And probably doesn't realize that many employers heavily subsidize their employee health plans. Or else didn't want to admit that her employer might be doing the same.

Of course its high enough. She said she worked in the Health Coverage field. You know what they charge. The Company is probably Government subsidized.

Sometimes when people have been employed for many years in service industries, dealing with many 'customers', they develop an intense dislike for their customers and it bleeds through their work habits and overall attitude. I've seen it in some industry. I'm sure that it happens in all facets of the health care industry.

He probably won't get insurance in the future either now that he knows he'll be bailed out by his neighbors.

We do an awful lot of bailing out in this country.

Perhaps we should forward this to warn the government so it doesn't become widespread.

Oops, too late!

Health insurance - all insurance - by definition is like a large coordinated subsidy; that's the only way it stays solvent. Sure, you pay some amounts through your premiums, deductibles, and coinsurance. But if you have a sizable medical emergency, chances are that what you've paid in does not cover it, and the rest is covered by other healthy premium-paying policyholders. That's the whole point of it.

What is admirable about people standing up for stupid beliefs that financially destroy them? Especially when it could have all been completely avoided?...
