It is more likely that the former sheriff and his wife own things of value. If they do, they would have to divest themselves of those things to qualify. I went through this with my father in law.

In other words, you care more about your politics than you do about the health or integrity of another human being. Gotcha.

Ummm, maybe so. Does expanded Medicaid require selling all assets before qualifying for it? Or is it income based only?

You can own a house and a couple of junky cars. What else is new. By the way where are all the usual suspects who blast Obummercare and Medicaid?

Not so sure about that. I'm pretty sure that I've read that no asset test is made in the ACA expanded Medicaid option, income based only.

In any event I'd bet he and his wife have enrolled in Obamacare/expanded Medicaid. Not a certainty of course but likely.

That depends on where you reside.

Not all states have expanded Medicaid. The smart states opted out because there are not tax dollars to pay the feds for this program after 3 years.

Selling? No. Medicaid simply takes a house and sells it under their own guidelines (they know better then to trust people who try to transfer it to someone else for a buck). As to assets they consider of value past that, they will need to to be sold down to be below $22k.

Are you kidding? It's the complete opposite. He likely opposed the healthcare reform because he believed people should have to pay for their own healthcare...and here he is now begging for money.

Don't get me wrong, I hope he recovers and that he's able to pay off his bills...but I also hope he learns the necessity of others being able to do so as well.
