However you are right about Japan - it has somewhat more. I guess old fears do not die easily in America.
That's what you get when you start a crap war you can't finish. Occupying troops forever. Nips and the Krauts learned the hard way....
As for the OP. How can anyone compare a country the size or Norway to the US. Maybe compare it to California ????

Hopefully the Yanks will learn some day too, and hopefully they will need their troops somewhere else soon.

We lost that round, that's true. But we are still alive and a nation, no matter what the Yanks or the Russkies wanted. And history is not over yet, we may yet get our turn.

This is not why U.S. has troops in Japan and Germany

I thought U.S. military bases in Japan were seen as essential to containing communist expansion, especially since the Soviet Union, China, and North Korea were considered a monolithic threat.

Are U.S. Troops in Japan Needed? Reforming the Alliance | Foreign Affairs

Germany is the heart of NATO, Most NATO forces are based in Germany and almost all NATO operations originate from Germany.

Without WWII, how can you still use ethnic slur so freely against people without shame?

1. American taxpayrs should not bear the burden of defending and detering action against Western and Asian allies

2. Americans must travel more outside their country

3. American exceptionalism is a myth. Just because our ancestors earned something doesn't mean that we de facto own it now. We did not win WWII (and we certainly did not win WWI), we did not walk on the moon or build the transcontinental railroad. Americans long since dead did that. Most of us, carry on day trading stocks, watching NFL football and...well, never having traveled outside of their own country.

Our country is remarkably corrupt. Our public officials are screwing us with the backing of the new de facto landed aristocracy. And this is not a Republican or Democratic issue, this is just a generalisation that has a large basis in fact.

Honestly, I am just ranting...but I have little hope that anything will change for the better in my lifetime.

lololol... this is as ridiculous as Virginian thinking the South may get a second shot at the Civil War. Germany is now thoroughly integrated with the rest of western Europe. Any war that Germany fights in the future will be with NATO allies, not against them.

Of course. Our enemies are not other European countries (I don't believe Russia is a part of Europe by the way). That is long in the past.

Germany lost a war and a tyrannical regime was eliminated.

Subsequently to that, Germany won the economic war, Adenauer's "wirtshaft winder", and continues to win that war.

And yes, the Marshall plan jump started it, but the long-term execution and delivery was done by the German people.

That is a reality.

And as long as they don't abduct, imprison, starve, rape, torture, gas, burn, shoot, and do medical and genetic experiments on innocent children, women, and men, we wish them all the success in the world.

Some of the people on this board don't like being reminded of the past. I get it. Nobody wants to believe their own people were monsters. Especially so recently in history. Lets face it, all of our ancestors were monsters at some point in our evolution as humans, but nobody wants to believe it was as little as 75 years ago. But reality tells us that they were. It does nobody any good to pretend it didn't happen.
