It is ignorant to target people due to their culture or appearance. Merkel has brought this problem to the people, and she should be held responsible for solving it. That won't happen however, as politicians do not take responsibility for their idiotic decisions- they just let the public pay the consequences. Same here in America with Obama.

This is utter stupidity. Beating up random people on the street is neither defense or resistence nor revenge, it is just agression - against innocent people who have not relation to the crimes except that they happen to be in the same city a few days later. Whoever thinks that this is the way a civilised society should fight crime needs their head examined

Oh there is a difference. In the countries they came from men do not get punished for sexual assaults or harassment.
In fact what happened in Cologne is quite common in Arab countries.
It's called Taharrush.
Remember what happened to Lara Logan in Egypt ?
Mass importation of young single Arab men gave them the numbers to get away with it in cities all over Germany and in Finland on NYE.
Over 500 reports of sexual assault.
Germany said they were aware of this practice.
For everyone who thinks NBD..this happens all over.
In Arab countries men are not punished for this. To them, it's not a crime.

One of the problems is the mainstream media in Europe and elsewhere doesn't appear to want to publish articles that are conceivably anti-migrant. The Cologne attacks first came out on blogs and more questionable media sites before finally the NYT's and others picked it up.
