It was a free time, wasn't it....

You made it on your character, merits and might.

You are right, reconstruction, which led to reconstitution of the southern states, was unconstitutional.
The southern states gave freemen, their full rights.... especially their 2nd amendment. The carpetbaggers from the north, could not stand that. Reconstitution, restricted freemen the right to bear arms.

Many Texas Rangers were armed freemen and the federal government didn't like that.....
They put an end to that, denying the freemen, employment in the federal government and the oncoming Progressive intellectual thinking in the federal government and the reason unions were formed.

You see.... all the things you listed above, were sanctioned by the federal government. Not free people able to defend themselves.

You should write some revisionist history books. Just make sure they're put in the comedy section of the book stores.

You've actually illustrated quite nicely many people's problem with Gen X and Millenials - they want what their parents have NOW. Not after a lifetime of sacrifice and hard work. Not after a lifetime of risk. NOW.

A good friend has a college educated son. He went on interview after interview, but never accepted a job. He would constantly bemoan the fact that he wasn't given "what he'd been taught he could have all his life." Namely, if he got a good education, he could get a job like his dad's, a high exec in a major corporation. He never grasped that his father worked his way up slowly, moving constantly for promotions, working late hours, travelling all over the world. He only saw the fruits of that sacrifice - a nice home, car and money for some fun. The son works at a Kinkos now, still whining that he has a crappy job, and that his parents lied to him. He feels he's so brilliant (because his ego was stroked during his childhood, to raise his self esteem) that anything less than a top level position is beneath him, so he'll just do what he "loves". Which is working the minimum job, hanging out with friends, going out to bars.

You can bet he's jealous of his parents.
You are so right. I have also witnessed the NOW thing going on. It's as if they have no concept of sacrifice and reward. None of us got what we have today because someone just magically gave it to us.

What was incorrect, since you took your precious time to make it personal and kill the messenger.

What was constitutional about not acknowledging elected state officials and appointing your own(carpetbaggers), that you only recognize? That is worse than stacking the supreme court to get it done.

The best Texas Ranger to ever to exist, the original "Lone Ranger", also US Marshall, was a freemen. Until the federal government said Oh No, we cannot have that, when they found out he was black. Bass Reeves

I'm not sure how well it "works." Most people retiring now (Boomers) LOSE money on Social Security.
Quote:
"As recently as 1985, workers at every income level could retire and expect to get more in benefits than they paid in Social Security taxes, though they didn't do quite as well as their parents and grandparents.

Not anymore.

A married couple retiring last year after both spouses earned average lifetime wages paid about $598,000 in Social Security taxes during their careers. They can expect to collect about $556,000 in benefits, if the man lives to 82 and the woman lives to 85, according to a 2011 study by the Urban Institute, a Washington think tank.

Social Security benefits are progressive, so most low-income workers retiring today still will get slightly more in benefits than they paid in taxes. Most high-income workers started getting less in benefits than they paid in taxes in the 1990s, according to data from the Social Security Administration."
Social Security is a LOSING deal for most workers - AP

As long as the millennials get a participation trophy, they can do almost anything, including changing the toilet paper in the bathroom.

Have at it.
