Pharmaceutical companies cant donate that much money to an individual candidate, what the numbers people are posting show is all donations to Booker from employees of anyone who works for a Bio Tech or Pharmaceutical company.

Which just so happens to be concentrated in New Jersey making up 1/5 of Booker's constituency.

also no, the law didnt allow you to buy a single drug, it allowed companies/pharmacies to import them.

And it claimed it would do so in a way that was revenue neutral which is impossible.

LOL, yeah, thank goodness the majority GOP senate and a few brave Dem senators (the ones who happened to have received the most donations from big pharma) blocked this bill! Just as every bill to import safe drugs from Canada has been blocked for decades by the same puppets of big pharma!

Its ridiculous to see working stiffs deny the influence of the pharma lobby in DC and side with them over the people.

There are few industries with as much power in Washington as the pharmaceutical sector. Drug companies have spent $2.3 billion on lobbying and $183 million on campaign contributions since 1998, according to the Center for Responsive Politics. The industry also maintains a war chest for advertising and grassroots lobbying aimed at altering public opinion. The ready money serves as a strong deterrent against any legislative proposal that would lower costs for consumers and profits for the drug makers.

I'm extremely disappointed in the handful of Democratic Senators who voted no. They'd better have a damn good reason other than how much Big Pharma is putting in their pocket.

My Senator, who is on that list, will be hearing from me.

Considering that some Republicans voted Yes - this could have passed.

Auction 2012: How Drug Companies Game Washington | The Huffington Post
It was not a bill, it was an amendment added to the repeal of the ACA.

And as I said, it was a symbolic amendment as it has no possibility of being revenue neutral.

I am a bit concerned that allowing cross border sales might mean less access to drugs by me and other Canadians. This old article from 2003 illustrates how drug companies could retaliate:

Glaxo Says It Will Retaliate Against Cross-Border Sales - WSJ

Quote:
GlaxoSmithKline PLC said it would stop providing pharmaceuticals to Canadian businesses that are shipping them to the U.S., revving up the debate over allowing U.S. consumers to fill their prescriptions in Canada, where many drugs are cheaper.
(I don't know what ended up happening in that particular case.)

By the way, we're probably talking about drugs under patent here. Canada generally pays higher prices for generic drugs than most industrialized countries (and that may include the U.S.)

The government has NO BUSINESS in a free society with "lowering" or "raising" or "interfering" with drug prices in any way shape or form. The will of the people BE DAMNED if the WILL OF THE PEOPLE is tyranny over private markets.

There is no right to drugs, no right to medical care, no right to enslave doctors or hospitals or companies that INVENT THE DRUGS that keep us alive longer and better.

What a bunch of presumptuous entitled pipsqueaks that think it is OK for the government, using the police power of the state, to "lower drug prices".

You people need to read what FREE COUNTRY means.

Disgracia!

Yes, it was an amendment and all amendments and bills to import safe drugs from Canada time and time again over the years have been struck down by the senators on the pharma payroll. You're just shilling for the GOP puppets and the 14 Democrat stooges. There is no defense for this. Excuse after excuse from the senators that just happens to be the top recipients of big pharma donations.

They are given scripts by their powerfull donors what to tell their constituents when they vote like their financial backers want. The GOP puppets are given scripts with buzzwords about freedom, constitution, liberty etc to tell their constituents. The Dem puppets are given scripts they think will appeal to their constituents, like safety, protect children, the poor etc.

Here is the same problem back in 2005. Same charade:

CNN.com - Democrats: Lift ban on buying*medicines from Canada - Feb 26, 2005

I see you are one of those posters pretends he didnt read the rest of a post by simply cropping it out of the quote in your reply.

Lets try this again. Bernie Sanders and Amy Klobuchar said in their amendment that the importation of drugs had to be revenue neutral.

While that is in and of itself possible, it would require cuts somewhere else since it is a budget amendment. Neither Sanders or Klobuchar are willing to name those cuts, and therefore offered an amendment that was not possible in its concept.

Why do you ignore that fact ???

Why be a globalist then reject globalism or why be a free trader and reject free trade ? Just like car or any other product China makes and we import. Why do we do that ? Cheaper. But what is the reason to reject cheaper drugs made in Canada ?
