You can see from below that inaugurations tend to get more well-attended over the years:

Quote:
Barack Obama, 2013: 1 million

Barack Obama, 2009: 1.8 million (generally considered a record for people on the National Mall)

George W. Bush, 2005: 400,000

George W. Bush, 2001: 300,000

Bill Clinton, 1997: 250,000

Bill Clinton, 1993: 800,000

George H.W. Bush, 1989: 300,000

Ronald Reagan, 1985: 140,000 tickets sold, but record cold moved the swearing-in ceremony indoors

Ronald Reagan, 1981: 10,000, according to the New York Times. This was the first year the ceremony was performed on the west side of the Capitol.
I think the OP here probably posted this thread because: Inaugural crowd sizes ranked | PolitiFact

Quote:
Just prior to his inauguration, President Donald Trump predicted huge crowds for his ceremony. Estimates are still rolling in about how many actually attended. Photos seem to show it was fewer people than for Barack Obama’s two inaugurations.

But the number of attendees at inaugurations has varied widely throughout the years.

I know he's the president, but I don't like it and I'll never shut up about it.

You know Trump will look at those pictures and make an excuse (like his followers in this thread) about why so relatively few people showed up for his inauguration.

And yes, I would greatly prefer Pence as president. I disagree with him on about 100% of the issues, but he comports himself in a dignified manner, doesn't insult people, and appears to have the attention span of an adult. I feel about him like I did the two Presidents Bush when they were elected. I wasn't happy, but I wasn't appalled.

I know you weren't a Trump supporter initially and I doubt seriously that you like him now. But your partisanship won't let you admit it and that's okay.

As much as I loathe the idea of him as president, I'm kinda glad the inauguration is over. Now he can start making an ass of himself 24/7. The more people see of him, the less they'll like him.
You seem to be an expert at that.

I was speaking of the entire inaugural.

I have paid attention to them. Obama's in 2008 was quite a blowout. Great set of performers and so forth.

I cannot recall much about 2012, but I seem to recall that midterm ones are not so exciting.... thinking back to the Bush Jr years.

You guessed incorrectly, but that's alright. This forum can often result in some kneejerk responses.

It was absolutely WONDERFUL to listen to a speech from a President that talked about "We" and who loves his country verses a speech from a narcissist who talks about himself and has completely destroyed his country.

My greatest hope is he will clean up illegals, lift up the inner cities and the people who suffer there, bring jobs to all who can work and restore the pride in our country. My hope is he can restore the respect from other countries, crushes radical Islam and most of all, can heal the racial, social, economic and religious divide Obama created and fostered.

Trumps order of priorities goes something like ...

1 - Trump
2 - Trump
3 - Trump
4 - Trump being the center of attention
5 - Women (those he ranks as a 10)
5 - Money
6 - Gold leaf
7 - Trumps family
8 - Trumps businesses

. - Somewhere about page three is 'The United States of America'
.

. - God didn't make the list

LOL, beat me to it!

Loving all the mental gymnastics Trump supporters are doing to avoid accepting this man is the most unpopular POTUS in HISTORY. Considering Presidents tend to be most popular on Inauguration Day, I think we can only expect his number to continue to fall. Obama's Inauguration in 2008 was attended by people from across the U.S. The same is true of Trump, just far fewer people cared to come.

Obama came in with something like 70 percent approval ratings and is leaving at 62 percent. Trump will be lucky if his DISAPPROVAL rating is less than 62 percent in 2020.
