The irony in "hispanics" becoming the largest minority is that historically in the United States, they were not considered to be minorities at all.
Just two generations ago, most people of spanish-speaking origin were considered to be plainly white. They became "the largest minority group" artificially through statistical manipulation.
This is a lie, there had been plenty of racism against Mexicans and Puerto Ricans before the 60s & 70s.
Fact. There was no "hispanic" group before the 1980s. The category did not exist. Nearly all were considered white before then, especially Mexicans.
Before Hispanic legally became an ethnic group by govt standards in the 1980s. Some Government agencies may have counted Hispanics as white, like the census, possibly to up their numbers. But US society treated...
white Hispanics like whites
black Hispanics like blacks
native indian Hispanics like native americans
mixed race Hispanics were probably treated based on how they look(which is most Hispanics)
That was in 1950s 60s n 70s, now in 2017, all Hispanics no matter the race, are treated as minority. I think the whole Hispanic catergory is dumb tho, basing an ethnic group off of language while the others are based on race. white Hispanics should be grouped with whites, black Hispanics grouped with blacks, native Hispanics grouped with native americans, and the mixed race Hispanics (which again is most Hispanics) grouped with multiracials. I think thats one of the reasons why this Hispanic catergory continues, Latin cultured group with strong African and native influences, dominated by Mestizos and Mulattos, compared to Anglo cultured whites and blacks, most of which are not as mixed as Hispanics are.
And Hispanics did face nearly as much racism as blacks and native americans, and still do.

Fantasy! People are making this up today.
Nearly all people of Spanish origin were white. There were never subject to any of the race laws in the past, especially not in the south. They were never on the back of any busses. They went through some social discrimination, but they were not minorities.
When American was split between "white" and "colored", spanish people were on the white side.
Generally speaking, Hispanics do not like blacks. And in California Hispanics have managed to ethnically cleanse some towns.
You guys are always so quick to make proclamations about how Hispanics don't like blacks.
Tell me, do blacks like Hispanics anymore than Hispanics like them? SMH
Moreover, Hispanics didn't ethnically cleanse some towns. Blacks simply did what every group does when their fortunes rise...they move to better places. Blacks have always done this in California. More Hispanics move in, more blacks move out. Whites did this when blacks moved into their neighborhoods.

You are so right. ! That is a hugeeeeeeee lie. When the white Cubans came, all the gringos. hated them, said they were communists etcetcetc. Same-O- BS. Ask PR how well they are received, even today...
very intelligent reply--
if they ever get the time machine going- be very interesting to get to the base of it all-
I read the " white" really came from albinos in a region and of course there is more mix and match as people mingle--and keeping some traits, and as you say, some go dormant- As I see every other species living on earth- colors, shapes, types, characteristics- etc. makes me wonder why is our problem to get along!
Thank you, tiny.
