They sure are reluctant to accurately describe these men. Asian? Really?
"The first is described as Asian in his early 20s, approximately 6ft and of slim build. The second is also described as Asian, aged in his early 20s, 5ft 6in to 5ft 7in with a large build and tight beard."
"Asian" in Britain has a different connotation than it does here in North America. "Asian" there typically means someone from India or Pakistan, or descendants therefrom, with the possibility that they may also be from Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, etc. So yeah, saying "Asian" in a story like this is plenty enough for your average citizen to read between the lines.
It's Britain. I'm sure they'll catch these guys and give them a stern talking to plus another series of job training and whatnot.
Olf!!! No kidding. After all they've asked them nicely to get in touch with them about the incident. I'm sure when they do they'll be prepared with tea and biscuits.

Do Britons not use the term Middle Eastern? If so, when?
India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh--I agree. Those fall under the Southwest Asian category. Whereas, Asian countries that are west of that area, as I have been led to understand, are Middle Eastern. Is that not an accurate characterization?

The Middle East is technically a part of Asia, but it is a good term to use to obscure the attackers for PC purposes.
Look , here is the latest "Asian" in Germany screaming Allah Akbar with a knife. I guess he only killed 1 and wounded 6 others. Not a big deal, he added a lot of diversity.
"I wanted to see exotic Britain... the crown jewel of the United Kingdom. I wanted to meet interesting and stimulating people of an ancient culture... and rape them. I wanted to be the first kid on my block to get a confirmed rape!"

And the "cultural enrichment" of Britain continues unabated.
