The Roman civilization has more in common with the British Empire. It was an umbrella term for disparate cultures living under the same ruler. But those societies rarely interacted with each other.
What kind of ahistorical nonsense is this? Rome the city, as well as several other cities in the Empire, was extremely diverse, and with that many people living in close proximity you couldn't avoid interacting. Many of the areas Rome acquired were already diverse as well. Trade throughout the empire was constant, which naturally creates relationships. The Roman government was often settling people here and there through land offerings. The army was huge and drew upon people from all parts of the empire. And so on.
Interesting.
Not sure how you can say the selling is being done from the RV. Maybe it is maybe it isn't.
And - assuming it's pot - it's legal. Not sure if I like that or not, but I'm not convinced that pot is any more harmful to society than booze.
Has a Multi-cultural, Multi-ethnic, society ever succeeded, present or past?
Roman empire lasted from 509BC to 1452 AD,
Almost 2000 years, and when it was at it's best and strongest it was very multicultural. It absorbed people and ideas from all over the known world and thrived. The USA should be so lucky, we might not get 500 years despite our best efforts.
Rome was multi ethnic, but multi ethnic had limits. Rome itself lived off of two cultures and languages, Greek and Latin. No laws were passed in native languages. Language of trade and commerce and of the court was Latin and Greek. Romans going to tell jews how to live their lives in Aramaic? No same for Egyptians illyarians, celts in Spain and France. Rome was multi cultural which worked, but also multi culture helped being Rome down. Rome saw Germans as inferior. Also when Germans served in the Roman army, Germans kept thier allegiance to thier German chieftain than to the emperor. In places like Spain and France. Local Romans, and romanized celts had a hard time with Germanic races that settled.
Another society that was multi cultural was Alexander the great Macedonian empire. Alexander himself wanted Greeks to mix with the conquered people such as the Persians. The mixing of Greek and native middle easterners did not sit well with Greeks who tend to be xenophobic and racist towards the people they have conquered. When Alexander died. His empire was divided up amongst his generals. In places like Egypt the local Egyptians did not like Greek rule. Also the jews in Judea dislike Greek rule. The mixing of Greek and Jewish culture and faith also paved the way for the development of Christianity.
Other empires were also divorce. Persian empire, mongol empire, Ottoman empire, and Russian empires. Some of these empires allowed minorities to fight, own property and be part of the government.

Yeah, ALL large civilizations throughout history were multicultural at least to a degree. There was typically one dominant culture (as there is in the US today) but plenty of secondary cultures. It's nothing new - and anyone who thinks otherwise is pretty darned ignorant of history.
