Regardless, I am totally against the welfare state.
I want all welfare done away with. Work or starve. Hunger is a great motivator.
How about an 89 year old in a nursing home that already spent through all his savings paying for the nursing home. Then runs out of money and goes on medicaid (welfare) to pay for the nursing home.

Places such as Brazil are a good example of this. Brazil has no welfare system. While Brazil's economy has grown immensely over the last 3 decades, there is still a wide gap between the rich, middle class, and poor. Brazil is a horrible place to be poor. Street children, prostitution, several cities in Brazil have murder rates higher than most cities in the USA. Brazil's murder rate is 5-6 times what ours is.

Take care of yourself and pay for your own stuff and not for others. Contrary to popular liberal beliefs most people like to take care of themselves.
With that logic i guess you believe those that have lost everything in the Texas flooding should pay for their own needs and get nothing from the government.
Thinking that other able bodied people cannot accomplish what I did is where Left wing ideology breaks down and the soft bigotry of low expectations takes over.
No one believes that. Well, no rational person believes that.
Anyone can do it is not the same as everyone can do it.
Because the government, which has no money of its own, of course, can only give you what it has stolen from someone else, who may be no better off than you are.
And most normal thinking people hate the idea of trafficking in stolen property.
Keep in mind that those on the far-right tend to assume that any nation that pays lip-service to leftist ideals counts as "examples of what liberals like." This is how we get silliness like people thinking paying taxes = socialism = communism = USSR. Every single step on that transitive property chain is completely wrong - none of them are equivalent- but there you go. Most "leftist" nations are just dictatorships that pay lip-service to leftist ideals, just as the "Republic" of China is not actually a republic in the sense we think of in in this nation. And this doesn't even get into the fact that "liberals" in this nation aren't even interested in communism because everyone knows that doesn't work anyway. We'd just be happy if people stopped trying to shove their religion into law, stopped hating minorities, and stopped pretending big business was sacred and should never be held accountable for anything.

I rep'd some who have presented good HUMANE COMMENTARY, that respects the system and see the challenges that Right Wing Ideology pose to the stability and prospering of the people, the nations and our systems.
Simple, Americans don't like the idea of people they dislike getting something that may benefit them all, so they would rather sacrifice their own needs so they can feel comforted by the suffering of others.
It's kind of like being a destitute man making fun of another destitute man.....that's pretty much the mindset.
Because failure to thrive lowers expectations and stifles individual initiative.
A lot of folks who were content working simple jobs that got them by and are now gone forever simply have no idea as to how they can do any better than they once did. They watched their parents get ahead, so they did the same things, but nothing happened for them.
They don't know why that happened, and they don't have any way to learn anything different, because there's nothing in their culture than gives the a clue as where to begin learning what they need to know now. And they are uncomfortable being among people who know things they don't.
Adjusting to the realities that an old job is gone forever is hard to do. It's a lot easier to just think that the jobs will come back through some mysterious magic and hope that happens, so they won't have to change their ways.
They resent those who learned how to adjust to the new realities of the 21st century or who weren't hit as hard by the slow sinking of the middle class as they were. They don't like being called dumb, because they're not. They don't like being called lazy, because they're not.
They just don't know how to do anything to help themselves now. They would learn, if they could, but they can't figure out what they need to learn first, or where to learn it. And they don't want anyone holding their hand and showing them the way, because they are proud of who they are, and would rather not change a thing.
So they wanted their frustration and anger to be known. Trump became their voice. He gave them the magic they want so desperately, and promised to fix it all up for them.
Amazing isn't it.... instead of seeking means and ways to adopt change, they went for a loud mouth swindler who played on their anguish. All so he can push for a Tax Reduction for the wealthy at the expense of any and all. The "disregard the elderly, forget the children and kill some people, Health Plan" Republicans floated", tells the story of the inhumanity that drives the Right Wing ideals.
How these people could be duped to think "industry that is entrenched on foreign soil, if going to return is insane, when it is a fact they are there and they have dug in to be and remain being there, they've spent over the past 30-40+ yrs making sure they will not return to American soil) and still people follow a swindler, who has not produced one items with a Trump logo on it in America and he IS NOT going to move any production of Trump products to American soil, now he will gladly move it to Russia in a heartbeat, but never to America. He has nothing nor does he market anything he has to the working people, his business is focused only on the well to do and wealthy.
Maybe the Tragedy and Devastation in Texas may wake him up.... ????????????
.....or he may see it as nothing more than another angle for personal profit by some means. (hopefully not!!!!), but who can tell... when one as such has been a shyster of many sorts their whole life.
