The idea is that you only spray in your house (especially the entrances). You don't drive across town and kick down the doors of others' houses and spray away.

There's a name for that: home invasion

It's racism. An all white America would have transitioned to social democracy by the late-90s, but middle and lower-class whites are convinced the government will take their money and give it to black and brown people.

No. We just need to close our borders and stop letting in the poor people from their broken countries. The more of them that we let in, the more permanent our income gap that YOU are complaining about. Canada doesn't let in immigrants who are poor or who are unhealthy, so why should the US be expected to.

Close the borders and let the US deal with our real American citizens in poverty.

Maybe they feel the same way.

So, how to decide who, if anyone, is right?

Sooooo...

Move to Canada then.

But you might want to keep in mind that they actually enforce their immigration laws.....

Which might have something to do with how they can make single payer work.

One more example: Another guy I know who went from being a reasonably sane Republican to being a full-on, hard-right "religious" nut after Obama took office. You know, the whole "everyone but Christians are evil, the Earth is 6,000 years old, science is of the devil, etc." extremist belief system. Again, a "legacy friend" who I'd never give the time of day if I met him today.

He suffers from a multitude of pre-existing conditions: cancer survivor, permanent damage from a car accident in his late teens, etc. The only way he was able to get any form of healthcare coverage before the ACA was through his wife's insurance, and even that was horrifically expensive and if he'd had that cancer before the ACA, they would have dropped him immediately. The only reason he can now get even remotely affordable coverage is thanks to the ACA since he can't just be dropped for his pre-existing conditions... but he hates the ACA, and - of course - all "liberals," non-Christians, etc.

Again, there's no reasoning with such people. The ACA has it's flaws, yes, and I'm no fan of the often-muddled approach the Democrats take to nearly everything. But why the heck would somebody with serious pre-existing conditions vote in favor of a party - the Republicans - who want to strip you of your healthcare coverage? It's madness! Sure, in his case it's a "religious" thing - I guess Jesus didn't treat people with pre-existing conditions - but it's still stupid, and you'd think at some point even the worst people on the far-right would break from the party line if failing to do so might kill them... but they won't. EVERYTHING is viewed through the lens of "liberals are to blame for everything" so they can keep on voting R.

No. There are a lot of black (non-American slave descendants), brown and yellow people who still believe in the American Dream, that hard work and sacrifice will lead to upward mobility and success. So they would not be content for America to become a socialist society. Look at mainland China, they are running away from what they had under Mao. And the same goes for Russians. They all know what socialism is like and they don't want it.

This is where right wing ideology breaks down its based on elitism a hatred of the poor and downright lies about the working poor.
I've never been rich.

I used to be poor.

I worked my way to middle class on my own.

It took me decades to accomplish, but I did it without a degree and without government handouts.

Thinking that other able bodied people cannot accomplish what I did is where Left wing ideology breaks down and the soft bigotry of low expectations takes over.
